Very poor ep in my opinion.

Certainly not great, considering JMS's best, but I don't think it "very poor." True, the Vindrizi part of the plot is pretty standard scifi fare, but with just enough differences to make it a bit more interesting. The Ivanova/Corwin story is amusing. There are enough arc elements to add some interest. I gave it a B, but couldn't argue with a C.

Yeah, C from me. I like the idea that the ep was setup as a typical "alien parasite" story, but with a big twist .. i.e. the host actually benefitted from the "relationship" rather than being harmed by it.

The Brit actor who played Duncan chewed far too much scenery for my liking, but that's what you generally get when you go for an old English (non-RSC) stage actor. The first chance to see Marcus and Steven working together was also worthwhile, but ultimately the whole thing just seemed pretty flat .. especially once Messages from Earth had followed it a week later.

Sad to say that Exogenesis is one I often skip over when re-watching s3. OK, but nothing remarkable about it whatsoever.

It does have a little arc of the overall story there but the story involving the alien parasite takeover whatever just seemed like it had been done before and was boring .C from me .Ivanova/Corwin scences are wht saved this one from getting anylower in the rating scale.

Objectively mediocre but I rather enjoy it. Other than his intro in the very beginning of the season, it's really the first time we see Marcus in action, IIRC.

And yeah, I liked the old man. I guess I'm just a sucker for British scenery chewing.

I gave it a B. I like the Vindrizi story, especially the scene where they reveal their identity. The Ivanova-Corwin story is funny, if totally unbelievable. (Doesn't EarthForce have a policy against fraternization?)

Some funny Ivanova-Corwin moments, but better by far are the interactions between Marcus and Steven...

"If we can get one of them to leave the room, there's only one left."
"Where I come from, one from three leaves two."
"Where I come from is a far more interesting place."

Slightly below average for B5. I do like the Corwin/Ivanova scenes. I wish Corwin had been given more throughout the series.
The parasite story was only OK.

Pretty average. Nice to see some love to Corwin... he's wonderfully awkward, reminds me of some friends of mine.

Props to JMS for the twist... yes these pod people actually asked for this, yes it's of their own free will, yes it makes their life better. Kind of funny to see the centipede parasites turn out to be good guys.

The "monster" does look like something out of the original Star Trek - or the Khan movie. I must give JMS credit for changing the basic premise, but that part of the story isn't as fascinating as most episodes.

I watched this a couple of days ago, making notes of some things that occurred to me. One was that a female doctor looked very familiar. I looked up the detailed credits and found Carrie Dobro's name! I hadn't realized that she was on B5 before doing Crusade.

I love the Ivanova/Marcus/Corwin subplot! It is so funny to see the latter so uncertain of her intentions and acting so awkward. Marcus telling Dr. Franklin of his interest in her is a nice moment as well. The absolute climax is when Ivanova brings the roses "back" to Marcus - there's a really martial drum background as she walks down the hall! Best moment in the whole episode...

This is an OK standalone episode, I think. I don't feel as negatively towards it as some people. I would agree that it's possibly the worst episode of the 3d season, but the 3d season is so fantastic that that doesn't say much at all.

The twist on the bodysnatcher story works well, I think. I like the idea of the Vindrizi, and the effort to preserve the past for the future is something I can really get behind This storyline also includes the common theme of self sacrifice in Duncan sacrificing himself (or his Vindrizi self, anyway) in order to convince Dr. Franklin that his old self meant/agreed with the things he said about the Vindrizi.

It's really not a bad story, overall. And it gets us some interaction between Franklin and Marcus, which is nice. I do like the Marcus character, and his English literature spouting.

As for the other storylines in this episode, I dig the Lt. Corwin stuff. I always liked the Corwin character. His awkwardness is entertaining. He also looks JUST like an old roommate of mine, who was just a little younger than Corwin is here when we watched Babylon 5 together. That made watching Corwin bits even more entertaining. I feel about as disappointed as Sheridan looks when he finds out Corwin can't be included in their secret meetings and such, but I'm sure it's more interesting this way.

The Ivanova and Corwin interactions are funny. I also like how the flower "incident" leads Ivanova to throw those roses at Marcus at the end, who is very surprised and happy. I'm not usually too good with confusion/misunderstanding humor, but this was funny to me.

More about links: I talked about this a little bit in the "Voices of Authority" thread (it's a very public way of communicating), but here's some other details we learn about communicating via link in the B5 universe: Marcus is unable to use Franklin's link. Those things apparently have bio sensors of some kind. That seems like a good safety feature. It raises some questions about that time the Green Drazi used Ivanova's link in The Geometry of Shadows. They must have either forced her to use it, or used it while holding it against her skin (seems more likely). It's also good to know that unauthorized use of a link sends an alert.

What we also see here is that apparently a connection isn't made just by pushing the buttons. Dr. Franklin gets cut off while he is trying to contact security and no message goes out. That makes sense, considering those buttons are so prominent on the outside of a thing you wear on your hand. I'd be pushing them on accident all the time. It does mean their voice recognition has to be pretty good

I'd love to know how those links are meant to work. Two buttons and a tiny microphone/speaker, and yet you can seemingly do everything with them, from turning on the TV to flying the White Star!

Those Vindrizi things were pretty darn creepy.

But all these years later after watching Falling Skies, I think the Vindrizi kinda look like the harness creatures the Espheni used on their human captives.

Ahh, I have never watched that. I might be more creeped out by the Vindrizi if I had. Admittedly, the merging bit is kinda gross, and looks rather unpleasant for the human participant. All that knowledge and experience though. That'd be nice
