    New TV season

Yeah, they pretty much took every sensationalized story about public high schools from the last 5 years and ran with it... they've already re-told most of the stories from season one and now they're re-re-telling them. This is pretty much every Boston Public episode: -- Scott Guber likes a...

    Manchurian Canidate

Reportedly John F. Kennedy's favorite movie, "Candidate" basically deals with an obnoxious, rich pretty boy from a well-connected family who goes off to war and returns a hero. The only problem, however, is that he isn't a hero at all ... as it turns out, the entire company was captured by...

    Carnivale

I saw it Sunday and I was was impressed by the setting (dust bowl era Oklahoma), the story and the acting. My only real complaint about the premiere was that the pace was a little slower than what I'm used to ... at times it just seemed like the scenery was the real star and the actors were...

    updated Heinlin book

I guess it depends on how true they remain to the book. From a book stand point, Haley Joel Osment is really to old to play Ender Wiggins, but since you're going to have a hell of a time finding an 8-year-old who can be a leading actor for a full-length feature, I think Haley would be the best...

    updated Heinlin book

No Sh*t! Damn, I've been begging for a movie version since I first read it back in high school. Can't make a movie out of it, yet they can make all the Starship Troopers they want. Of well, I guess I'll lobby for Ender's Game now... which would make an excellent movie.

    updated Heinlin book

Whoops... forgot all about the intro by his wife, which tells you how long its been since I've read it. Thanks.

    updated Heinlin book

Hmm, well if the cuts were made by the man himself, then why did his wife put out the full unabridged version? Surely she must have known that the "short" version was the way he wanted it.

    Goddammit, that does it!!!

I couldn't agree more... and Family Guy rules.

    updated Heinlin book

That's the version that's been on my bookshelf for about three years now. From what I recall, Heinlin's wife found his original draft and notes, waited for the then-publisher's rights to end (or something like that) and simply re-released the full story. Frankly, I dunno why any publisher in...

    Tru Calling

Has that been confirmed? Fox (or the show's producers) were denying it earlier this week.

    Tru Calling

Oh I'll probably watch as well since I'm no fan of Friends or Survivor. I guess Fox feels the need to put up some sort of sacrifical lamb every year and Tru Calling is just the latest one.

    Tru Calling

I'll give it about 4 episodes... then it'll go on hiatus with the remaining episodes to be aired (if at all) on Friday or Saturday nights during the Winter. Fox put this show in the "death" timeslot opposite Survivor and Friends... it won't be around for long.

Anyone else watching the spiderman series on MTV?

I've seen most of them and I'm not really impressed. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the computer graphics... sure, it works well with Grand Theft Auto, probably because I'm too involved in playing the game to really care... but as a 30-minute show? I dunno. Frankly, I would have loved to...

    The Anti-Hero

Hmm, now that we're getting into anime, I'd have to nominate Spike Spigel from Cowboy Bebop; Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion; Veggeta from Dragonball Z; and possibly Nicholas D. Wolfwood from Trigun.

    The Anti-Hero

What about the story of the 47 Ronin? They've been regarded as cultural heroes in Japan since the 18th century. I agree with you... I think people get so caught-up with the ending of Planet of the Apes (and the apes themselves) that they tend to forget what a heartless sonofabitch Taylor is...

    The Anti-Hero

The only reason I remember it is because it was one of the first movies I ever reviewed at college. Every Coen film is different, but The Hudsucker Proxy was really out there. Try to imagine "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" meets "It's a Wonderful Life" meets acid.

    The Anti-Hero

    No Hudsucker Proxy?

    The Anti-Hero

The Coen Brothers... good choice. I wonder if you could also lump in Ulysses Everett McGill from "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

    The Anti-Hero

Yeah, you'd figure that comedies would be riddled with anti-heroes, there's a lot of fertile ground there to work with, but for the life of me I can't think of any. I almost want to make the argument that Forrest Gump may be an anti-hero since he lacks some of the typical heroic qualities...

    The Anti-Hero

To me, the Sanjuro character was different from "Yojimbo" to "Sanjuro." You could argue that he was down right honorable in "Sanjuro" -- he helps out these young students for no apparent reason, protects women, helps bring down the villians ... that's a hero in my book. In "Yojimbo," however...
