What's this prequel? I've only heard things about 'The Hobbit'.

I've just converted a friend at work. I lent her 'The Gathering' over the summer holidays, then the box sets one at a time. I told her to stick with season one as it could seem slow at times. She didn't need much encouragement and last time I got an update, she was only two episodes off...
