    Game of Thrones, HBO series

So I've decided to jump on this bandwagon, but also I canceled HBO recently, so there's that. I tried to start reading Game of Thrones a couple of months ago but couldn't get into it because there's so many names hitting you on the head in the beginning and I just couldn't be bothered to give a...

EpDis: A View From The Gallery

Just re-watched the series and I skipped this episode except for the Londo/G'Kar scene. Mac and Bo are just corny, silly characters. I like the idea of the show, and I'm a huge defender of the other odd-format episodes like Intersections in Real Time and the two ISN ones, because they add to...

    EpDis: Comes The Inquisitor

Watched this one last night, and I dunno maybe it was the mood I was in or whatever but I enjoyed the pants off of it this time. Sebastian was just being such a dick; a tremendously enjoyable performance. The final stretch of season 2, with this one and Centauri obliterating Narn and the...

The races of Babylon 5 based on fictional sci-fi books

I've definitely always connected the races to historical nations: Earth: post WWI Germany. The United States, 19th century. Expansionary, arrogant, a new power, alternately fascinating or distasteful to other nations. The new kids on the block in terms of political power. Centauri: Roman...

    EpDis: GROPOS

Well FWIW, one of my big life lessons has been to dispel the myth I was brought up with that women are delicate, emotionally and even physically frail or weak or needy. I know it's obvious to say that people are individuals but I kinda had to figure that out a little bit for myself.

    EpDis: In The Beginning

Started another re-watch of the series (this time via Netflix Instant). Decided to do it chronologically within the story, so started with In the Beginning. Just that whole beginning dialogue with Londo and the kids, like "are you the emperor" "sometimes I ask myself the same question" and...

Not Particularly Good Films That I'd Like To See Re-Cut/Restored

Not only do I dislike (and I'm a huge Lynch fan otherwise), I just don't see how that story could be made into a decent film. But then I'm not that great a fan of the book either. There's some I think would make interesting remakes in the hands of good directors and producers, like Fahenheit...

    Green Lantern 2011

Re: Green Latern 2010 Last thing I heard Fillon was lobbying for was the film adaption of the video game Uncharted because lots of people say he looks like the character, but then that didn't work out.

    The Green Hornet

Name of my band: Gargantuan Bucket of Penises Haven't seen Green Hornet, no desire to, both because I burned out on both superheroes and Seth Rogen. But wait I'm not threadcrapping! I read some mixed reviews of this flick and they all suggest that the movie is confused... not quite comedic...

    2010 movies (non-sci-fi)

Black Swan Plot Summary Theme of the ballet of the same name is translated cinematically into a psychological thriller about a ballerina whose obsession with her craft and emotional isolationism transforms into paranoia and self-destruction. Cast Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis; dir. Aranofksy...

    2010 movies (non-sci-fi)

This can be our thread to discuss all non-sci films of the past year, now that awards season is upon us. It might clash with other threads but we're talking about non-sci-fi, mainstream and indy stuff. I'll be jotting down my thoughts on some of the buzzed-about flicks of the year. SPOILER...

    Bye-bye IFC

It ain't. Comes w/ cable. I don't pay extra for it. Jade's complaint isn't that they're going to show commercials at all, but show them during movies. The original point of channels like IFC, AMC and TCM were unedited, unre-formatted movies, basically like watching the DVD.

    Bye-bye IFC

Yeah I think Bravo became the all-gay channel at some point. I don't mean challenging indy films about homosexuals and their life experiences, I mean TV shows where they go shopping and eat lunch or whatever.

    Bye-bye IFC

Ok but really, if you wanna see an uninterrupted classic film, it's so easy w/ internet/libraries/DVD. Last weekend I was holed up @ home due to a cold and crappy winter weather, so I decided to catch up on some movie watching I been meaning to get to as I haven't watched any in a while. -...

    Bye-bye IFC

Well on the flip side, the commercialization of AMC also led them to create 3 awesome series.

Gee I wonder why people illegally download things.

    HBO's "Boardwalk Empire"

Can't say my initial impressions of this show ever changed. Don't think I'll be back for season 2.

    The Walking Dead

2nd episode was fun but my goodness did they rely on every cliche and expected stereotype and turn of events. For me, The Walking Dead is similar to the one other weekly hour-long show I watch: Boardwalk Empire, in that they are very well produced, visually excellent and fun genre pieces, but...

    The Walking Dead

Only 6? For some reason I was under the impression they were gonna try to make this a flagship show, now that their two marquee series are on break. Oh well that's fine, that's how they do it in Britain, and I prefer their method.
