From AquaTec 8615 to Babylon 5

One thing I am curious about, and I know Jason Davies will cover this in his books, is how they had to plan the production schedule around re-dressing sets, like for example Londo's quarters might be re-dressed to become someone else's quarters. I wonder how long it took to do that, and whether...

    B5 on Legend, UK channel

Huh, I didn't realise AMC owned Legend. And good point, they could be edits from elsewhere, I'm not sure how WB distribute the series to TV channels. The cuts just seem a bit random, if it was just for violence I'd understand. Speaking of cuts, it has just reminded me of this poster used to...

    B5 on Legend, UK channel

Only for the BBC. Legend has advertisements. If they are cutting the violent scenes why cut Londo talking about his dream? And, 30 years ago, none of these scenes were cut when Channel 4 first aired the show at 6pm, and censorship has become less strict since then. So I do wonder if they are...

    B5 on Legend, UK channel

Nah, it's like they are mutilating it, you don't want to see that. Today's random cuts in Parliament of Dreams – one shot of G'Kar in the pain givers (they left the other shots of him being electrocuted in, just cut one shot) and entirely cut the scene where Na'Toth is kicking the pain givers.

    B5 on Legend, UK channel

Legend seem to aim for an older demographic. It's mostly older shows on there: TOS and The Six Million Dollar Man precede B5 each day on the channel, followed by Walker, Texas Ranger. B5 is out there on streaming and YouTube if people want to find it, but not everyone can afford streaming channels.

    B5 on Legend, UK channel

So I managed to get to watch the show on Legend after all despite being away, it's good to see the show back on UK TV, but Legend have made some weird edits. They showed the special edition of The Gathering, which looked like the horrible cropped widescreen version from the Blu-ray, and cut out...

From AquaTec 8615 to Babylon 5

Seeing your 3D representation of the corridor there makes me wish there was a VR version of the sets that we could walk through. I seem to remember someone did just that for Star Trek TNG's Enterprise-D.

    B5 on Legend, UK channel

Just a heads up for UK fans that B5 will be showing weekdays at 7pm on Legend (UK free-to-air channel) starting next Monday 8th June, and I think they're showing The Gathering also on Tuesday 9th, presumably after Soul Hunter as their evening movie. I'm away that week so won't get chance to...

    The Babylon 5 Preservation Project

That does concern me, if it's anything like the B5 script books, the shipping ended up more expensive than the books themselves by the time the B5Books store closed down. I suppose one way to look at it is one book per season. Honestly, if it had been pitched as one book per season at the...

    The Babylon 5 Preservation Project

That would be five books up to about 500 pages each.

Has the special edition Gathering been remastered like the rest of the series?

    Larry Niven

Footfall is definitely on my 'to read one day' list. I do have The Mote in God's Eye, which Niven also wrote with Jerry Pournelle, on my bookshelf but haven't read it yet. Having said that I'm on a run of reading sf novels from the 60s and 70s, so I might give it a go sooner rather than later.

If only they were real products and not customs... if only... Good to see Bruce and Claudia together in the pictures!

    Larry Niven

Well seeing as we've rejuvenated this thread, yes I also like Ringworld. Granted it's the only Niven story that I've read so far, but I'd like to read more of his Known Space novels.

It's just another example of how fandom is taken advantage of, though I don't think it's anything new when it comes to autographs. Nearly 20 years ago I met Buzz Aldrin at an autograph convention in London. He charged £100 for a plain autograph, another £5 to write 'Apollo 11', another £10 to...

That's awesome - a really cool idea taking the photos while they signing! Looks like they were taken at different cons (in the Rick Biggs picture, we can see the Andreas Katsulas photo, so that must have been a different con).

    What are You Watching?

Yeah I saw the apology, but he still doesn't get Star Trek. To claim that Star Trek, and science fiction more broadly, shouldn't be addressing sociocultural issues misses, well, a large part of the point of what science fiction is. He's entitled to his opinion of course, and I'm entitled to...

    What are You Watching?

That's how I felt about Discovery season 1. Amazing science fiction, but it wasn't Star Trek. If it had been its own thing, I think we would have been lauding it today as one of the great SF TV shows. Obviously from season 2 onwards they conformed more with what we expect Trek to be, not always...

Babylon 5 on VHS: A History

The photo cards were store exclusives, and they are so hard to find now! Did you get the UK video releases in Sweden, or were they different? And @Looney – there's some sealed videotapes up on UK eBay right now – I'm telling myself I don't need them. I like collecting VHS. While I'd never...

    What are You Watching?

Yep, the same for me, TOS re-runs on BBC on Wednesday nights I think, before Points of View. My mum would work late so my dad would allow me to stay up late to watch it. I remember watching the episode Arena when I was about five or six. I also went to the cinema to see The Voyage Home. So TOS...
