According to the DVD commentaries and interviews, I think you have to take the view that when JMS explains something in B5 through one of his characters, he intends to tell the truth and not to add more fuel to personal interpretations. I.E Justin tells 100% truth. So does Lorien...

Now that's just not in the spirit of B5! There's far too many implications that something more happened than just an evaporative death. That's part parcel of creating legends/myths/deities, just as the Valen story.
