DVD out in 5 days - But no reviews - CRAZY!

Everyday, I diligently go through all of the important DVD sites, searching for news on the two DVDs that I am currently drooling about. LOTR:FOTR Extended edition, and of course the B5 season 1 DVD.

Yet everyday, I am disappointed with regards to ANY news regarding the B5 discs. Now there are 5 days to go until the discs are apparently to be released in the UK, and not a word from anyone. In fact, for some discs, 5 days would be the time for the luckiest pre-orders to have arrived. Yet not one DVD site, as far as I can see, has even said that they have the DVD and are about to review it.

I can only conclude from this, the following pieces of blatant suppositions
1) That WB may be delaying the R2 DVD for a second time (to be in line with the later released R1 version)
2) That WB are not going to too much effort to promote this DVD
3) That the universe has gone mad! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I would like to finally, go on the record and say that I am definitely not a WB bashing B5 fan. I think they have done allot that as a B5 fan I am grateful for. It's just that as far as I can see it, with regards to the DVD release, they call the shots.

I wouldnt be surprised if british B5 R2 DVDs would delay again because according to BBFC website ( http://www.bbfc.co.uk ) latest extra was classified on 15 October.

Is it sufficient time (a'la 10 days) to produce them and sent screeners to press?

Just a follow up.

I have ordered my DVD from dvd.co.uk (sorry ANT, but I'm a poor student, and they are the cheapest).

Anyway I asked them when they will ship it, and got the following email reply

So it looks like, as far as they are concerned, it's still Monday.

4) WB has sent out screener copies and very few DVD critics had any idea what the show was, because it isn't exactly a household word, and they haven't bothered to watch it, much less review it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

While we're all terribly excited about the release of this set, you have to realize that the show barely registers on the radar of most pro- and semi-pro DVD review sites - and they're the ones who get advanced review copies. They get lots of advanced review copies, mostly feature films, but also other TV shows. Their critics may post 7 or 8 reviews a week. So, if B5: S1 is one of 20 screeners that show up in a given week, and most of them are recent feature films, classic films that people have been lobbying to get released and TV series that have much bigger audiences, what are the odds the B5 is going to be one of the 7 or 8 the get reviewed?

Joe

I always thought 'despatch' was perfectly normal British English (as opposed to American English).

You can dispatch criminals by hanging them.

There is one DVD magazine that lists the Region 1 Babylon 5 but not the Region 2 DVDs.

But does it have a review? (And if so, can you summarize it for us?)

I don't know what is going on in the U.K. Maybe review copies were never sent out. Maybe the reviews won't appear until tomorrow, the official release date. Certainly plenty of regular people over there started receiving their discs between Thursday and Saturday, so we should start seeing some comments on the discs, if not formal, professional reviews.

One TV/Video critic that I know of in the U.S. reports that he received his review copy last Wednesday, and that "the usual suspects" should have theirs as well, and we should all expect to start seeing reviews of the R1 set this week, maybe as early as tomorrow. So at least we know that Warner Bros. did send screeners to critics over here.

Regards,

Joe
