For the most part, I really enjoyed the episode. The openning speech by Archer at the huge assembly was rather typical for a speech of the nature it was, so that was rather bland, but the rest of the episode was nice.
I enjoyed T'Pol considerably in this episode. It was nice to see the crash of cultures conflict not be resolved in the ooo everything always turns out happy and perfect way that a lot of shows, including far many episodes of the various Star Trek shows in the past, resolve things. When the wedding started and then suddenly the episode was over, I wasn't anticipating that being the end of the episode.
The whole theme of guilt for having things happen out of one's control was prominent in the episode: with T'Pol's being on the Enterprise causing the Vulcans to not trust her mother to not be feeding Vulcan secrets to the Humans, with Archer's trying to deal with all the bad things that happened under his command in the past several years, and with Phlox being alien in a world recently hurt by other aliens. I think such a theme would be an easy one for writers to quickly script in a shoving it down the viewer's throats way, but I think the writer of this episode stayed sufficiently away from doing so.
It was nice to see that the parasites the Reptilians used on Hoshi last season were mentioned again in her check up with Phlox. Did I mention I enjoy continuity?
And lastly, I enjoyed Tucker's willingness to not create more stress on T'Pol in regards to the whole marriage issue. It does show he really cares for her.
So, overall, I'd say it was quite a nice episode. I look forward to more nice episodes should this be a glimpse of the new direction of Enterprise.
