Out of Ashes (spoilers?)

So, I just popped over to Showtime's site and took a look at next week's clips. I don't see the spoiler code available so if the thread title didn't tip you off, then too bad. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Hmm I wonder what/who Jeremiah knows in Denver or was it a reference to something we saw already? I can't quite remember anything right now but I am pretty sleepy too.

Anyone else find it interesting that it was Lee Chen giving out the mission orders? I didn't see Markus or Erin there so I wonder if this is a sign that he is gaining more power or just that M & E were occupied with other things.

I also was curious about the destruction of the technical books ... it is really zealots who blame them for the Big Death or is there something more to it? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I'm pretty sure his reference to Denver is something we haven't seen before. There are yet depths to Jeremiah. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I think I read somewhere that Erin and Markus are occupied or out of town for this one.

Your last comment is very interesting. If I were Valhalla Sector, I'd want those books destroyed, lest Thunder Mountain get their hands on 'em and use them to rebuild the world.

Yeah Denver has yet to be explored on the show. The one thing i like about Jeremiah is that there is a entire country, even a entire world to explore. This isnt the episode E+M go to that thing. I dont want to spoil it for anyone. But knowing JMS he is going to do a few things. He starts off small. Local area of TM. Then Season 2 and 3 he spreads out the country. Season 4 and 5 he uses the entire world somehow. Thats a JMS story :)

They were at the coast allready a few times..and that was NOT California..Looked more like Oregon or Washington, maybe even Canada to me..(well duh of corse it IS Canada considering its shot in Vancouver)..but anyway there is not that much coastline as we saw anywhere all to close to Colorado.. (that being where TM is isn't it..where exactly is it supposed to be?)

I know, all of the outdoor shots look -very- Pacific NW to me so it is hard to remember where they -said- they have been. /forums/images/icons/rolleyes.gif

I think the only conclusive pinpointing of a location in the show we got untill now is Danbury. (And Thunder Mountain, considering that it really exsists). We've heard a lot of names of towns, but I don't know if they really exsist or are made up. I'm from Colorado and I've never heard of a town called Danbury to be honest, and I'm to lazy to go check it on a map /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Thunder Mountain does exist. Apparently, people in the military refer to the NORAD center by that name. I am not sure of the history behind the name really but I guess it has something to do with the name of the mountain (Cheyenne) that NORAD was built under.

Maybe someone who has been in the military can confirm this or has more info?

I don't think any of the outdoor scenes in this episode were remotely like they are in Colorado. It is one thing if that is the look you are going for (green, lush, a bit untouched, etc.) but not when you are going for a specific part of the country that doesn't look like that ... even after 15 years. I haven't been to Colorado in many, many years but I don't remember it ever looking like that.

The other thing that I think is funny is that a LOT of Americans somehow have picked up Canadian accents after the Big Death! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

One other question I had about this episode ... in the credits, a scene from "The Long Road" was shown but I didn't recognize it. The scene was apparently the one with the girl who wanted Jer to read her a poem. So, my guess is that this scene was cut from the pilot but how would it have fit in if they didn't cut it?

My husband thinks it might have been a flashback we see when he goes into Theo's base, which is a school.

Also, who is this girl and why does Jeremiah want to go see her? Jeremiah also seems very familiar with Dever so did he grow up there or was that just the last place he settled down in before finding TM?

Ok, that was more than one question but help me out here. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I'm fun! I was just too tired to answer last night.

No, the Pacific NW, especially Vancouver, doesn't particularly look too much like Colorado. The Pacific NW has its own special beauty, I think. It's very straight, and tall. That's what I've always felt. Colorado, if I remember from my trip to Denver years ago, is a bit craggier.

You're right about the accents, eh?

I can't help with your other questions, really. I don't have my copy of the pilot on me (it's at my parents') and I'd have to see the episode in question. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

There was so much pontification in this episode that I felt sick! Other than that, I liked it very much.
