Yep.. It seems that <a target="_blank" href=http://makeashorterlink.com/?V2DF521A>JMS himself has given up on Rangers</a> making it a series. So what do we do now? How will we make life go on without our weekly dose of the Babylonian universe? What can we watch instead, or read?

Shows:

Farscape 9/10
Not as good story as B5´s but the character portrayals are in the same league and sometimes they actually exceed B5. /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif

Star Gate SG-1, 7/10
After a very bad first season the crew of SG-1 started to learn. And already by the second season they where very good. Now by the end of the fifth season I find Star Gate to be one of the absolutely best SciFi series out there.

Dark Angel 7/10
Its post apocalyptic, its genetic manipulations, its conspiracies everywhere, its dark, its Jessica Alba. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif Hey its Great!!! Written in a fun yet gripping way with great characters. Love this show

Jeremiah 6/10
Its Post Apocalyptic 90210, it’s the restart of a civilisation. Its just five episodes so far. I like what they have done so far and it has a lot of potential. We will see if it pays of in the future. But I trust JMS to do something totally cool with it.

Enterprise 4/10
Well they are trying aren’t they. I actually loved the first episodes. They seemed to have thrown away a lot of stuff that made Star Trek slow and boring. They seemed to have new ideas and a new vision. And they did. For a few episodes. But after a while I started to feel, once again, the old Star Trek formula sneaking in the backdoor. The “meet the new alien of the week” syndrome”. So if you had asked me after the first 8 episodes I would have given them 7/10. But now its 4/10. We will have to wait and see what happends…

Andromeda 3/10
Naaaahh.. This could have been something cool. But it became.. “Hercules in space”..

LEXX 0/10
PUKE!!!

Or one could read a good book. May I recommend something by Larry Niven or David Brin. Two brilliant SciFi writers. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

See ya

What about Smallville? Buffy? Then this fall we'll have a new Twilight Zone, Firefly ... doesn't sound so bad to me.

Heh. Haven't watched any of those and unless they're shown at a TV channel near me, I most probably never will. Apart from Stargate SG1 which I tried to watch a couple of eps of and didn't like it.
So I just go on ... doing nothing, I guess.

I am tired of TV anyway, don't think I've actually watched any series at all for a year or so, or anything at all apart from rather little of the Olympics and the news.
I should probably find some books to read. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

Yuk, with that description I would never give Jeremiah a chance. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif It's actually quite amusing that you describe it like that because it in no way resembles 90210 except for some actors. /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif

Still, I agree with Channe ... Jeremiah and Farscape is about all I am looking forward too in the SciFi genre. I am still watching Enterprise but it gets more and more disappointing with every new episode.

[edit]
Oh, Smallville is more eyecandy than anything I would consider quality SciFi. Buffy does rock but I am stuck waiting to catch season six from the beginning. /ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif

So what do we do now instead?

I think the thing to do is grab the remote and hit the off button. At this point, there really is nothing on that grabs me. So it's time to heave that b*stard of a creation out the window. Yes, what the world needs is a good defenestration!

Read books, Kribu? I'm going to write them.

(Well, starting a month from now, when I'm unemployed. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif )

No particular change. Wait for DVD disks, watch an occasional episode from tape, write fanfic and build my website, along with other usual stuff (which includes pretty much everything). Engage in lots of sillyness and be interested in all matters B5. Get some classic science fiction books, preferably the originals, not translations...

I agree that there's nothing but beautiful people on the show, but the writer's are very good -- as long as they aren't dealing with the latest kryptonite-powered villian. Personally, I have a gripe with most shows out there not only because they're filled with beautiful people, but mostly white beautiful people. No doubt more African-Americans have walked the streets of Mayberry than have ever been seen on Friends, Dawson's Creek, Buffy.... not to mention Hispanics. I'll say one good thing about JMS, he makes a concerted effort to make his shows look as diverse as real life -- that's a hell of a lot more than what most writers and producers do.

Shows:

Farscape 8/10

Star Gate SG-1 8/10

Dark Angel 2/10

Jeremiah 8/10

Enterprise 3/10

Andromeda 6/10 before, 3/10 now

LEXX 3/10

Buffy 9/10

Angel 8/10

Firefly Unknown yet.

Polaris Unknown yet, assuming goes anywhere.

EDIT:
Now that Alias is considered a sci-fi show by SFWIRE:

Alias 7.5/10

24 6/10

Smallville Have not seen one minute of it.

Well, I still have my B5 tapes (All 110 episodes and all 6 movies), so I will continue to watch those. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

As for other scifi-type shows, I will try to catch StargateSG1, Earth Final Conflict, and Enterprise whenever a have a chance, which is pretty slim anyhow because I am usually at work when these shows are on.

Funny that you should ask what we need to do now. I was upset about Rangers until I realized that B5 doesn't have to die at this point. I think we should concentrate on getting the Telepath War idea made. I think that one thing we agree on is that we want to see this story. I'd love to see more Rangers, but I'm a survivor of depression & I can't try to bring back something that can't return or I will sink back into old, destructive habits. I *do* think that the Telepath War idea is doable. So let's concentrate on getting it made. Write to Warner Bros. & tell them you want it. B5 is not to blame here, & we are not t blame. SFC screwed up. They will have to deal with their decline, since they don't seem to want to do SF anymore.

<sarcasm>What an innovative idea--a SF channel that doesn't want to do SF!</sarcasm>

Don't give up hope! /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

Shows with "season passes" on my TiVo:

Farscape (my favorite SF show on air right now and it's back!)
Six Feet Under
24
Jeremiah
CSI
Survivor
Amazing Race
Osbournes
Daily Show with Jon Stewart
Angel
Stargate SG1
Gilmore Girls
Smallville
Queer as Folk
Malcolm in the Middle

Occasionals:
Primetime Glick
The Shield
Sex and the City
Andy Richter
Buffy
Chris Isaak Show

On Hiatus but will be back:
Sopranos

Sticking in to see the end:
X-Files

To be honest, in my opinion, there are more good writers and producers working in TV now than at any time in the past and more variety.

I really believe that.

Tammy,

That is why I refered to the Scifi Channel as the Drivel Channel in another thread here. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Well i just posted the Sci-fi part of what i watch/used to watch, otherwise my list would have been much longer.

TV isn't the wasteland some think it is, one just has to work harder to seperate the good 10% from the garbage.

Shows i watch:

Third Watch

Once and Again (just a few episodes left, cancelled)

Buffy

24 - less and less impressed with each new espisode since
episode 5. Only watching to see where it goes. Somebody please shoot Terri and Kim, please, i'll pay you money.

Gilmore Girls

The West Wing (occasionally)

CSI

Angel

Futurama

The Simpsons (degrading in quality the last two years, unfortunately)

Malcolm in the Middle

Alias

Farscape (Season 2 is about to begin, woohoo!)

Jeremiah (missed 2nd and 3rd episodes. Grrr, relying on others for taping is, inconvinient, to say the least)

Stargate SG-1 (wondering when the hell Canadian TV will get anything beyond season3 !!!)

Sopranos (loved season 1, hated season 2, waiting to see season 3).

Shows i want to check out but keep forgetting about:

Andy Richter
Smallville
Chris Isaak Show
The Osbournes
Six Feet Under
Greg the Bunny
Queer as Folk
Ed
Oz
Sex and The City

Savant, add The West Wing to that list. That show continues to completely blow me away and to bits.

Some of the best writing on television these days doesn't belong to science fiction. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

Assuming, based on the complete list of shows you gave, that you are watching in the US (forgive me if this is not actually the case):

This month they are airing the last four eps of season 3 (starting tonight! YEAH!). Season 4 starts in June.

Alias
24 People
Smallville
EFC
...

There are some names flouting around here that I will have to investigate. Sounds fun.

But there are some shows, that I have seen a bit of, and that I just won't waste my time on. With the risk of making some people very emotional. I can't for the life of me see what is so good about Buffy. I have just seen about 5 episodes, but that was quiet enought thank you. Bad writing, bad acting, mindstageringly silly stuff and vampires that look more plain stupid than fearsome.

Gonna have to take a look at the other showes thou. If I can get my hands on them. Ny the way... Has anyone seen Witchblade? was it any good?

I agree 100%. The Babylonian universe doesn't have to die with this. Actually I believe that it is much to strong to die that easely. As someone else here said, the Star Trek people had to wait for meny years before they got TNG. They only had a few films in between.

So lets get a few films made and simply wait for the power of the B5 story to get such an enourmous fanbase that "the powers that be" can't ignore it anymore.

We shall see.

nope.. time to sleep. Gonna read some good old C J Cherry first thou. Sleep tight everyone.
