Does any tv series / book saga / movie saga achieve B5's plot structure?

Plenty of book sagas are there, or are getting there. A good fantasy equivalent is the Song of Fire and Ice cycle by George RR Martin, and is talked about elsewhere here a fair bit. Not sure of any TV series in the sci-fi / fantasy fields. Or elsewhere for that matter. Possibly the Wire.

    SPOILER thoughts on Matrix Reloaded

I liked the Robot war suits. The rest was all meh.

    V

I saw the first and some of the last years ago. I agree it did tend to cheese up at the end, so possibly worth the remake treatment. But for crying out loud, lets all try something new that is not based on an existing franchise, movie book or whatever.

    Star Trek (SPOILERS)

From a creative point of view, this was basically a neccessity. Trek was dying under the weight of its own continuity, and a vocal but minor section of the fanbase was dragging the whole thing down by requiring that it was constantly adhered to, which was unworkable and a bit silly. With this...

    Star Trek (SPOILERS)

Writer Bob Orci attempts to talk to naysaying geeks here: http://trekmovie.com/2009/05/14/st09-tidbits-bob-and-alex-address-issues-box-office-update-stars-warstrek-more/ Mostly about time travel, black holes and stuff. Kudos to the man for engaging with the fanbase like this. Even after JMS...

    Star Trek (SPOILERS)

Hmm, not sure I totally believe the Shat-master there.

    Star Trek (SPOILERS)

Good points there, the effects of the whole Enterprise series and the temporal cold war have not really been considered by fans when arguing about this.. Also, Enterprise crucially introduced bare-ass into Trek well before this apprently misogynistic film...

    Star Trek (SPOILERS)

Yeah, but Trek movies have rarely been sci-fi hardcore heavy, that was saved for the series. There is enough time travel, causality and black hole stuff here to keep us geeks happy, although nothing new or revolutionary. For me, it worked because the characters are intact, well respected by...

Thrones to be on HBO (Fantasy)

Its all about balance. Too many battle scenes in a book get repetitive and slow it down. Pacing in the Thrones books is almost always spot on. Now, if only he could hurry up and finish em ...

Thrones to be on HBO (Fantasy)

A lot of the combat in thrones is 'off camera', i.e. relayed in speech. Makes it very TV friendly. I sometimes thing he writes with this in mind. He will be now.

    Star Trek (SPOILERS)

They would need to develop a new type of disc technology for a Jar Jar removal feature, but it would be worth every penny. Saw it yesterday at a large iMAx before going onto a party and getting a bit trashed. The effects were wonderful, the new Enterprise amazing and I dug the cast a lot, they...

    Wizard Magazine's "25 Greatest Sci-Fi Shows Ever"

Chili disses Torchwood a lot, but only 'cause he's secretly got it hard for John Barrowman.

So...what is everybody reading now? (part Deux)

Re-reading the Scar by China Meville. I would recommend any of his stuff.

    Wizard Magazine's "25 Greatest Sci-Fi Shows Ever"

Quoted for truth. Wizard is a comic book mag, hence the Hulk & Smallville getting in there. They are the only 2 comic book series that have never totally sucked (season 1 of Louis & Clark aside) ...

    "Best SciFi Theme Tune"

Dr Who, Old school BSG, Knight Rider and the A-team are there for me. The A-Team is not sci-fi, but it is still really really TV music. All of these are tied into my childhood, which probably says a lot.
