We have just had season 4 and, beyond the specials, the BBC have already commissioned a full season 5 for 2010. I can't comment on whether the break from regular seasons was always planned, and I doubt very much that a comic store owner (however early he gets to see the episodes) actually knows...

Unfortunately, I still find it hard to forgive Eckhart for the pseudoscientific mess that was The Core. Dark Knight, on the other hand, is a fantastic movie, and his Harvey Dent was superb.

I thought all series of Top Gear were 6 "episodes" ... that's why we get two per year, one in the early Summer and one in October/November.

To be fair, the Talia arc came to naught because Andrea Thompson wanted off the show to do other things. We have no idea how much of what Lyta did in seasons 3, 4 and 5 might have fallen in her lap if she had stayed, but I would wager that quite a bit would have.
