An Obsessed Review - possible SPOILERS

Warren, that's quite all right! We've all been phasing in and out of the story for a while.

I've been letting it stew for about a week now because of a little something known as my senior comprehensive, which requires the vigilance of a sentinel and the arse-kicking skills of a Ranger... time is limited!

Sure, I can send you a copy. The market's very small. Very tiny. Very local. But it's print, and the publication's going to be up for an award next year.

(adds in a whisper) the reason I know it's going to get published is because I edit the damned thing.

BTW, Obsessed - loved your point about David's unique solution to the Kafta problem. I agreed, and I liked it, too. They'd never do that in Star Trek. The fact that David can consider that as a viable war tactic (and not sit there and pontificate about if it's "right" or wrong" is much more believeable for me. If you're in a situation like that... you don't pontificate... you ACT...)

Re: The weapon pod and the screams!

If I had done that sequence with the weapon pod...I would have done it exactly the same way...

All the martial arts (not saying that the movements in the weapon pod is martial arts) that I have done...more specifically, the Japanese style of martial arts (ie:Karate and Kendo)...emphasize on the "Kiyai" (yelling of the inner spirit)!

I have done the art of Kendo...and this particuliar martial art (Japanese Bamboo sword training) requires one to focus greatly on the "Kiyai"! There are excercises that require the "Kendoist" to "Kiyai" for hours at a time...just focussing on that...can you imagine that!

If the person doesn't "Kiyai" loud enough, the Sensei would smash you on the head...or you have to do some type of punishment...

Anyways, I am very impressed with what Myriam had done in the weapon pod...and I commend her hard work as she picked up the choregraphed movements quicker than most would, and she doesn't have any martial arts background!

She would get an A+ from any martial art's teachers if they saw that scene she did in the mine-field! A+ any time, any day!

She is a very confident lady...and after seeing that scene...she could kick anyone's ass in a hearbeat! Sarah Cantrell that is...Myriam is the kindness most thoughtful person I know...

I stand-by her 100%!

Cheers! -Warren-

*I can't stand martial artists that have weak "Kiyais"...it really bothers me! It shows no confidence in oneself!

I really liked the weapons pod, actually. The scream was the only thing that got me, and even I had to rethink that on my second time through the movie (as I mentioned before, I probably would have screamed, too. There's no way I could make it through something that stressful on my body without it.)

I know what you're talking about. I've never done any martial arts myself (unless you call the pen a bo), but I know people who do.

The weapons pod seems to me like a very intuitive interface. I like the symbiotic aspect of it, the "Sarah-IS-the-ship" thing. I'll say it before and I'll say it again - it was a helluva lot more dramatic than just having Sarah press a few buttons. The only thing I was a bit queasy on was - what if a ship comes at her head from behind?

Otherwise, I hope they keep it in the series!

That was, I think, THE most hotly contested innovation of the movie. Just last night in the chatroom, there were two fans going at it tooth and nail.

I liked Sarah. Goooooood character. I wasn't disappointed in that at all (although I winced at that one line about the wise men... I really did... I couldn't say that one straight if you asked me to...)

Warren, I'm looking forward to seeing you kick some serious boo-tay in the series. (Fingers crossed, knocking on wood, sending positive thoughts into the universe, bribing the Supreme Being.)

I've been known to kiyai in the better spent part of my mis-spent youth. Great for a sudden release of explosive power, like fa-jin in Chinese martial arts.

I confess I've screamed when playing X-Wing: Alliance, but it wasn't focusing my inner spirit!

"The Scream" didn't particularly bother me. The Yogi Berra line, however...

Overall, I liked the script (flawed as it was in spots) more than channe. It did get bogged down, especially in the first 45 minutes, but it did the job.

The core cast did a fine job, without exception.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tafeek.

He was introduced.

We saw him calming down the diplomats.

And then he dissappeared.

Until the end, when he was in the scene with G'Kar.

I was idly wondering where Tafeek was the entire time, because they had *introduced* the character, just as they introduced everyone else... it didn't follow, for me.

Oh, I'm sure that once the series starts going and JMS starts hearing the actors in his head again (this DOES happen! I'm living proof! I wrote a whole play like that!), I'll like the scripts better.

Cool, I am just really happy that I got the jist of Kitaro in the movie. Right from the Welcoming Ceremony we see him excited and a little overeager to be there. All his overconfidence and eagerness makes him so cute and human. Yes, I am one of those who would pinch his cheeks! I find it amusing when people (not just you B5O) conclude that an actor's delivery is "off" when they never stop to consider if that is how it was -intended-.

Also, the look he had when the colony was destroyed ... oy! Breaking hearts all over the place. Now, I may be one of the few people in the universe that does not like Dylan's looks (or Dean's for that matter -- sorry guys!) so Warren is definitely the "hunk" of the show for me.
laugh.gif

I did see Kitaro get his butt whipped by Tannier which was disappointing to see. I don't think you should play a char who doesn't know what they are doing martial arts wise, Warren. I just didn't buy it.
wink.gif
Heck, I thought you were better than Dylan (even his double) ... at least in the way you moved. I could tell you were trying to fight like you were the lesser opponent but your moves inbetween hits gave you away.
wink.gif

Also, Warren, I am with you about Myriam's acting in the weapon pod and am glad to hear you talk about it more. I feel like I am one of the only people who actually like it -and- the scream. *sigh*

You know the *best* thing about Rangers? Thanks to Na'feel, I now have new alien swear words to use when I come back from a six-hour layout session with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Ha ha ha. Just kidding.

tsk tsk, Channe... don't go spreading that Narn vulgarity around here.

Warren - I loved the way you worked the "control panel"... reminded me a lot of Data from TNG. It's a little flair that's often overlooked, but one I pick up on pretty quickly and have learned to appreciate.

Hey, shouldn't you be tsk tsk'ing me as I have Narn swear words in all my recent posts?
