Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead was one of my favorite episodes for all five seasons. It was imaginative and innovative. Each of the four people chosen, Lochley, Garibaldi, Londo and Lennier, had a very different experience. For Londo it was a very happy experience, to see again one who he had loved and lost.
For Lochley it brought closure to an event from her past which had troubled her for many years. I'm not quite sure what was the purpose of Garibaldi's experience which seemed to be more frustrating than anything what with Lochley interrupting and giving him orders.

However, for Lennier it must have been extremely disappointing. He had made a special trip to Babylon 5 just to take part in it and then all he got was Morden with a cryptic message of doom. He wouldn't listen and he didn't want to hear it, and he didn't learn from it.

It's hard to take all these different results and try to make any real meaning of the Day of the Dead. Probably only the Brakiri really understood the true meaning of the experience.

Day of the Dead was a very good episode. I liked Londo's experience the best. It was good to see Adira again, and it let Londo see her one last time. I think it was probably an event that he needed, what with everything that had happened to him. Overall, Londo led a dreary, unhappy life, but Adira was one of the best things he'd ever had in his life.

As for Garibaldi, I thought it was extremely random to have Dodger show up. Surely there had been someone else in his past that could have been a better choice (I don't recall what is known about his parents). Dodger was a person he only seen once before.

Lochley's experience gave us some more insight into her characters past, and some of the personal tragedy that had happened in her life. And, yeah, it did bring closure for her.

Having Morden show up for Lennier was odd too, in my opinion. It was good to be able to see him one last time though. Of course Lennier was disappointed in who was chosen for him. As Jomar said, he didn't listen to what Morden had to say, and as a result he made a bad mistake.

It would have been interesting to see who would have been chosen for some other characters, such as Zak and Franklin.

Coach: It's the damnedest thing. I've been shivering all the way over here.
Diane: Well, Coach, you don't have a coat on. It's thirty degrees outside.
Coach: Oh, thank God. I thought I had malaria.

I think it's kind of interesting that JMS (and Gaiman) took two rather interesting terms and concepts from the Hispanic community: the Zocalo (a gathering place) and the Day of the Dead (a Mexican holiday, if you can call it that).

Any comments?

This response doesn't have nothing to do with anything but I just had to tell GKE that this word sent me to the floor laughing. I still am having trouble controlling myself.
