Fund Raising for Richard Biggs Memorial

A new effort Re: Fund Raising for Richard Biggs

I noticed this on Sandy Bruckner's Zocalo Today:

I received a note from Donna at Pipeline Productions yesterday. In it, she indicated that she and Jason Carter have been working on a web-page to replace The Biggs and Carter Experiences page. Since The Biggs and Carter Experiences had been a long time dream of Rick’s, they thought it best to dedicate it to rising funds for the RJ and Hunter Educational Fund.
They are taking donations of items and putting them on the page for interested parties to buy. All donations are welcome and should be sent to the Pipeline Productions, P.O. Box 522, Allen Park Mi 48180. Please remember to mark the name of the item or name of actor as well as how much you feel it should go for or the fair market value.

This will be an on going project that Jason and Donna will need as much help as possible to raise as much money as they can. So if you do have any items or if you see anything you like let me know by email at donna@pipetap.com. The web address is still http://www.biggsandcarter.com/.

I think it's great that Jason wants to use the site this way.

Help Please?? (Re: Fund Raising for Richard Biggs

Hey gang, I can use some help/suggestions/clear thinking.. something.

In my post the other day on the moderated group and JMS News, I'd talked about holding a raffle, selling chances both via online ordering with PayPal payment and by my selling chances in person while at DragonCon next month. I've been really excited since I thought about it this past weekend.

My thought was that I'd set up an Ebay 'store' and have the different chance purchase options as 'items'. Turns out that it's absolutely against their policy. Can't say I blame them, really - the potential for fraud is immense. Bummer for my planning and plotting, though. ;-(

The only other way to do it that I can think of would be via a website 'store' with an order form and payment links and that's WAY beyond my capability (and, I'm sure, financial reach).

Or I can just sell as many chances as possible at DragonCon. Maybe reduce it to one prize package...

Does anybody else have any ideas or know anybody with whom I might 'consult' about a temporary online 'store'?

Thanks,
Jan

<maybe:>

Re: Help Please?? (Re: Fund Raising for Richard Biggs

Hi

I may be able to help out here. I could probably sort out a temporary online store for you that uses pay pal to accept the payments :)

How quickly do you need it setting up?

Re: Help Please?? (Re: Fund Raising for Richard Biggs

Elric,

Thanks for the reply! I'm hoping to have something up so I can put the URL on flyers I'll be making for DragonCon Sept. 2-6. Short notice, I'm afraid.

What I was hoping for was a short explanation of Rick's passing and his sons, a description of the prize packages (5 or six multi-item packages) and the 'items' in the store being the different purchase options such as 3 chances for $5 etc.

Does that sound do-able at all? I was looking at PayPal and they seem to have things like buttons and shopping cart available, I just am completely clueless on how to match them up with a web page.

Thanks so much. Feel free to PM me about this.

Fund Raising Raffle

The latest phase of my fund raising for Richard Biggs children is ready to unveil. So many people have donated so many wonderful things that I've put together six Prize Packages that I'll be raffling off. Elric (from www.starstuff.co.uk/ ) has put up a *really* nice website at http://rbiggsmemorial.starstuff.co.uk/ so that anybody anywhere can buy chances to win the prize packages I've put together.

The drawing will be held on November 15 which should give me time to get items
to the winners in time for Christmas.

I'll be selling chances in person at DragonCon and chances can be purchased online at http://rbiggsmemorial.starstuff.co.uk/ .

Chances will be priced $5 each, 3 chances for $10, 6 chances for $20 or 10 chances for $30. Each chance can be designated for whichever drawing the buyer wants.

Prize Packages:

#1- 'From the Set I' to include David Gerrold's own "Believers" script
autographed by the author, cast and director; a set dressing cocktail napkin; a
piece of Crusade stationery

#2 - 'From the Set II' to include set-used blueprints from episode #312-'A Late
Delivery from Avalon'; a set-used thieves knife from Crusade/A Call to Arms; a piece of
Babylon 5 stationery.

#3 - 'The Lighter Side' to include the 'bird' picture of the cast with some
autographs; Babylon Park video and t-shirt; a selection of satire prints by Tye
Bourdenay, signed by the artist.

#4 - 'Art of B5' to include a painted portrait of Dr. Franklin, a limited
edition print of Londo & G'Kar; the 'War Without End' lithograph from
Lightspeed Fine Arts.

#5 - 'Autographs' - a collection of pictures and cards autographed by major
players (JMS) to minor players (Security Guard #1) - 28 autographs in all.

#6 - 'Models, Cards & Games' to include a Special Edition Starfury model kit, a
Babylon 5 Station model kit, several CCG and trading card sets and a Babylon 5 Board Game.

There will probably be more auctions later on, too as even with all this great stuff, I've still got items from people who've donated them.

Many thanks to one and all.

Re: Fund Raising Raffle

Slight correction to the last post. Apparently it's a no-no to sell chances at the con so I won't officially be doing that. I'll be absolutely *papering* both hotels with flyers so that they'll be able to find the site online after the con.

So far the response is good. I'd sure appreciate anybody's help who hangs out anyplace they haven't seen my message. I'll be happy to answer questions via PM or email to RBiggsMemorial@aol.com

Thanks,
Jan

Update as of 9/19 ( was: Re: Fund Raising Raffle)

So far the raffle has raised just over $625 for the Rick Biggs Memorial Fund with about 8 weeks to go. Naturally the largest numbers of purchases was when it first began and then just after DragonCon.

Raffle to Benefit the children of Rick Biggs

I'm still working on enhancing the Prize Packages, too, as opportunity presents. The 'Autograph' Package is now up to 30 different autographs (not counting a few duplications) and in the 'Lighter Side' Package, the B5 and Crusade folks who attended DragonCon were generous enough to add their signatures to the 'Bird' photo. It's now signed by Rick Biggs (flawed signature but genuine), Pat Tallman, Jeffrey Willerth, Peter Jurasik, Jason Carter, Stephen Austin and Peter Woodward.

My effort at DC ended up being a bit of a disappointment first from not being able to sell chances and then when a large portion of the flyers I'd set out mysteriously 'disappeared'. Still, at every B5 related thing that I could, I handed out flyers and promoted it. Amy and several other posters now know what I look like when I'm completely terrified because I grabbed a mike and did an unscheduled commercial just before the B5 reunion in front of a couple of hundred people! <g>

Oh, and there *will* be more auctions down the line...I just need some round tuits.

As always, my thanks to all of the generous chance buyers and donors of both goods and money. You're the best!

Update

It's been way too long since I posted an update on the raffle I'm conducting for the Rick Biggs fund. There's just over 10 days before it ends and I honestly think people may be missing out if they don't buy chances to win these items. To recap:

- Drawing will be held on Nov. 15, 2004
-Prize packages are:

#1 - From the Set I - which includes David Gerrold's own "Believers" script autographed by the author, cast and director; set dressing napkin; piece of Crusade stationery.

#2 - From the Set II - which includes set used blueprints from episode #312 "A Late Delivery from Avalon"; a set used knife (Dureena's) from "A Call To Arms"; a piece of Babylon 5 stationery

#3 - The Lighter Side - which includes the 'Bird' cast photo with several autographs including Rick Biggs (note: photo has traveled around and shows it but all autographs are recognizable); Babylon Park video and t-shirt; selection of Ty Bourdenay satire prints signed by the artist.

#4 - Art of B5 - Painted portrait of Dr. Franklin; Framed limited print of Londo and G'Kar; 'War Without End' lithograph by Lightspeed Fine Arts.

#5 - Autographs - Cards and Photos autographed by major B5 folks (JMS) down to Security Guard #1. Autographs of Rick Biggs and Tim Choate are part of this package.

#6 - Models, Cards and Games - including the Special Edition Starfury model kit; Babylon 5 Station model kit and several sets of CCG and trading cards.

So far fewer than 300 chances have been sold and no one package is dominating so your chances of winning your choice are really pretty good. Better than the lottery! ;-)

Chances are available for $5 each, 3 for $10, 6 for $20 and 10 for $30. Purchasers can designate any combination of what drawings they want thier chances to be in. Go to http://rbiggsmemorial.starstuff.co.uk/ to purchase chances or to donate.

I'd honestly hoped that this would generate more than in has though the total (over $650) is still quite respectable. Let's get it higher, folks!!!

Also, once the raffle is over, there *will* be some fundraising auctions for the Tim Choate Memorial. Since I've already got the structure set up, it seemed fitting.

Thanks all! remember: http://rbiggsmemorial.starstuff.co.uk/

Counting down...4 days

Only 4 more days for you all to buy chances for the raffle.

If you have any questions about the prizes or anything, please feel free to PM me. Want to know what autographs are on the 'bird' picture? Well....for one...JMS himself signed it. Interested in what cards are in the Models and Cards package? Just ask. Interested in who I think may have used the blueprints from 'A Late Delivery'? There's a name on them that's familiar to everyone here.

I'll be drawing the winners the evening of 11/15 and notifying everybody by email.

After the raffle is over, there will still be more auctions - some for Rick Biggs' family and some for Tim Choate's.

Thanks to everybody who's bought chances!

Jan

We Have Winners!!!

Okay, everybody, there are 6 lucky people out there who should have an email from " RBiggsMemorial@aol.com " informing them that they've won a prize.

Before shipping expenses, the raffle brought in 1009.85!! Yay B5 Fans!!!

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all of you who bought chances!

Re: We Have Winners!!!

I was very fortunate to win one myself. I NEVER win a thing. The last raffle I won was for a bowling ball when I was a junior in high school.

I had just bought one the week before.

Thanks so much for doing this for Rick's family, Jan. I'm sure they (and we) appreciate it greatly. :D
