And B5_Obsessed said he was offended, so, according to your logic, you have to apologize. In fact, I demand that you apologize! Now!

- I will apologize only if I didn't mean to offend someone in the first place. B5_Obsessed is in no way worthy of my time.

Oh, this is the last time you'll get away with that one, if you try it again, you're definitely pushing it and I'll have to do something rash like show people pictures of your girlfriend laughing the first time you took your clothes off infront of her.

B5_Obsessed: How dare you criticise Star Trek, the greatest thing in the universe since penecillin? Captain Sisko and the Prophets came to me in a dream and Deanna Troi is pregnant with my love child. Burn in hell, heathen!

Disclaimer for the humor-impaired: this post is a joke, and intended to point out the stupidity of everyone who isn't me. So there.

Sol, you may fail to understand my point (or claim not to - it's a patented trick in a flame war), but I am quite sure all my points were properly stated and others who have read or will read them will have no difficulty figuring out what I am talking about.

What Sol meant:

"I was saying that it's things like that, that non sci-fi fans have against us, and ridicule us for".

What Sol wrote:

"Seriously, this is the part that makes me ashamed of being a sci-fi fan. It's just a show people! To analyze it to death and look for anything that isn't fully scientifically correct is just IMHO stupid. Watch and enjoy, I'll bet you most people won't even notice that unless they utterly and completely lack a life."

Not insulting or offensive at all.

Anyway, that's it for today.

Yes, looking at every insignificant detail in a show is what people make fun of sci-fi fans for, IMHO. And yes, I do think that most people won't even notice when watching the show, just those that are obsessed with it, again IMHO.
If you'll notice that I stated it in my original post that it is JUST MY OPINION in there, you may not agree with it, but it's just an opinion. I try to make it clear that it is just an opinion when I say something like that, for a simple reason to separate myself from people like you that always go asking for trouble.

May Valen be with you.

Myriam - I am very sorry for allowing a troll to ruin this thread. I hope that the moderator will close it and open a new one where people will hopefully conduct themselves better, and even if they don't, I will make sure it is handled far more discretely than this time.
I feel it is partially my fault for not behaving as a moderator should and ignoring the inflamatory comments, but all I can do now is offer my apology and hope it is accepted.

May Valen be with you.

Just for the record, before the temperature went up, I was not Analyzing the the science.

I was offering a suggestion for a source of information about the "proper" look for the effect Myriam will be trying to create in her role.
If the assumption about it being a Free Fall environment is correct.

Many actors like to see or experience the actions they portray in real life before trying to re-create them in front of a camera.
I suggested that JMS has Sources for the necessary visuals if they would be helpful.

It was NOT intended to start any sort of "discussion" about the scientific accuracy of the effect.

Solaris,

I think you totally missed the point of my previous post:

I was just offering Myriam a bit of information about a source of Video footage she might (or might not) find interesting or useful.

I wasn't discussing the Science or anything else.

You and B5Obsessed are the ones who did that.

- Report you for calling me a moron? Nah... if I wanted to I would wait for a better reason, if I said you called me a moron all that Antony would say is: He was right!

But I don't agree with you on this. While I did lower myself by dignifying the original post with a reply, I did my best to keep my cool in light of the situation.
Let's just begin with the fact that I most certainly didn't deserve what I got, that was completely out of line.
And one more thing. What is this "now that you're a moderator" crap? I've been getting this far too much, and I don't deserve it goddamit! You for one have to admit that I am doing my BEST to be nice to people. The old Solaris would NEVER have pranced around and bothered with niceties. I behave all big and bad now? Ha! I guarantee you that this is me holding back, and you of all people should know that!
One of the things Antony said when hiring me is that I have to show a LOT more restraint than before and I have, trust me I have.
So what? You want me to quit? Well, if you want it so bad you can have it! I don't need this, not now of all times.
I can tell you one thing though, I am very dissapointed, I said before that I have to re-evaluate who I consider a friend but never did it. Well this is it, you're gonna see a new me from now on. And I could care less if you like it or not.

Sol, it's not about you being "nice" or not. It's about you threatening to close threads that are not offending anyone, accusing people of being trolls when they aren't, and generally stirring up trouble. All we, or at least I, ask is that you cool down a bit and give people the benefit of the doubt.

------------------
"You do not make history. You can only hope to survive it."

Have you by any chance considered that I was using my best judgement in all of those situations?
I'm gonna go through all of them for you and explain myself in every situation.
First one: Sheridan and the WTC
That was an obvious insult toward Jade Jaguar if I have ever seen one. That warrants a warning for flaming. And that started the annoying apology crack that has been getting on my nerves although I've tried to joke about it every time.

The Anti-Star Trek Thread.
Okay, is essentially asking for people to gather and bash something. And it has Star Trek in it, and this is a B5 Board. If you're gonna start an Anti something thread that is asking for a beating. I don't know how you see it, but that's how I do. If someone wants to create a "safe haven" for ST bashers he should chose a more apporpriate place for it. There are many sites dedicated to bashing Star Trek and any of those is a prime candidate.

Finally my response to B5_Obsessed had nothing to do with me being a moderator, although me holding myself back had everything do with it.
Everything angers me about that post. It is one of the most obviously inflamatory posts I've ever seen, it is a personal attack, and it hurts me that it was made in this thread which was originally made by Myriam to thank the fans for their support.

And finally, let me assure you. What you're doing, is not helping. Trust me. You've just earned yourself an enemy, and it's not B5_Obsessed.

May Valen be with you.

quote:
Have you by any chance considered that I was using my best judgement in all of those situations?

Yes. I know your intentions are good, it's your approach I'm talking about.

quote:
And finally, let me assure you. What you're doing, is not helping. Trust me. You've just earned yourself an enemy, and it's not B5_Obsessed.

Is that a threat? That's odd coming from someone who wants to maintain peace and friendliness on the boards. I was just trying to shed light on the misunderstandings, not attacking you personally. So I'm gonna let this go, give you the benefit of the doubt, and not take it as a threat.

But, for future reference, I don't take kindly to threats.

------------------
"You do not make history. You can only hope to survive it."

You wanna look from my point of view?
I got a new job and I'm still on probation. Some jerk starts trouble with me and I defend myself while trying my best not to endanger my position. Then someone who I thought was a friend comes in and pledges support to my opponent at the time when I needed his help most. Not only that, he questions my every decision that I've made at my new position while not giving me the benefit of the doubt (which has supposedly been your point this entire time) and allowing me to show him and everyone that I am good at this, that I know how to do this.

For future reference, I don't take kindly to people stabbing me in the back.

No need for the drama. It was precisely as a friend that I addressed the issue. It's called constructive criticism. I'm not judging your character, ability, or intentions. Not everything is an "attack" or "taking sides." There was no back-stabbing. I don't owe you anything. I'd make the same criticisms on my own mother if she did the same thing.

Anyway, my reasons are selfish. I'm afraid that if you go after people, I could be next.

So, in the interest of attempting to regain whatever shred of sanity can possibly be recovered here, I'm going to make this my last post in this thread. Unless, of course, it goes back to its original topic: how much the lovely and talented Myriam Sirois loves me..., er, I mean, us, her fans.

No, temperature is the rate of transfer of kinetic energy from one group of atoms to another. Or something like that. When there are no atoms in contact with you, there can't be any transfer. So vacuum has no temperature. That's why vacuum is used as an insulator in thermoses and the like.

Well, actually heat can be transferred to or away from a body by conduction, convection, and/or radiation. The first requires direct contact between the two things, the second uses an intermediary medium, and the third has the object radiate heat in the form of IR waves. Conduction and convection aren't very effective in space because of the extremely low density of atoms/molecules in space. Nothing is there to give or take away the heat. However, the radiant method would work. Otherwise we wouldn't feel heat from the sun. I'm just not sure how much heat would be carried away from the human body per unit time in space. Sure the pressure effects would be nasty. The freezing effects, timewise, I'm not so sure about.

In the thermos analogy, the better working thermos also use glass that's mirror coated to reduce radiant energy loss (it reflects it back inward).

Good point BS. I like the idea, but I still have my doubts. Like cheese in a vacuum: how will it taste? Will it explode? Can you still eat it after long exposure to space?

These all have to be addressed.

Sheridan: Are you trying to cheer me up?
Ivanova: No sir, wouldn't dream of it.
Sheridan: Good, I hate being cheered up. It's depressing.
Ivanova: So in that case we're all going to die horrible, painful, lingering deaths.
Sheridan: Thank you, I feel so much better now.
