Jeremiah in Canada!

I saw a post recently from a fairly trusted source about Jeremiah coming to Canada at last. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Set in the future, the series focuses on Jeremiah (Luke Perry) who must navigate his way through a world populated by the survivors of a deadly epidemic that spared only those who had not yet reached puberty. Now those same survivors must find their way in a decadent civilization and attempt to create a new world order of hope. </font color>

I don't know much about Canadian TV but it appears to be an east coast pay cable company. More info as I receive it on whether or not the west coast will get a chance to see it as well. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

The show will air in France, starting this fall or early 2003 on the cable channel "Cinefaz" (avalaible with TPS).

Really? That is good news as well. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif Wonder how the fans of the comic will receive the adaption on TV. Do you have a link or something that I can use to report on this event?

I was under the impression that Showtime had a two-year exclusive deal for the show and that nobody else was going to even *get* it until third season. That's something JMS said - maybe this changed?

Maybe it was US only deal since Showtime is imo US-only channel. There's no point to not show it where it will not hurt Showtime's ratings.

Umm... ' was printed in two magazines. Don't know if I can find an online source for this... /forums/images/icons/confused.gif

Nope, I can't find anything online easily, and don't necessarily have time to do an extensive search, even though I guess it must be online somewhere else than on my site /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

All I can tell you is that it was printed in issue #639 of "Télé Cable Satellite Hebdo" on their Series Guide written by Martin Winckler (on of the two biggest French TV series specialists). It really is a serious and reliable source.
And I've heard that the info also appeared on "Télé Poche" last week, but I don't know the issue.


As for the jms quote about the rights for Jeremiah, I too believe he was only refering to US Syndication.


And I'm pretty sure the reaction from Herman's fans won't be good. But, hey, doesn't matter since the show is actually much better than the comics /forums/images/icons/grin.gif /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Is jms against syndication or something? I think it would be a legit path, if Showtime cancelled the series (knock on wood). Also, why wouln't he shop around Rangers at places like Tribune?

JMS quite obviously has nothing to do with it.

It is a contractual thing that has been set up between Showtime and MGM.
We already know that Showtime likes when his show are clearly identified as Showtime's shows (Showtime's Jeremiah). It is a goal easier to achieve if the show airs on Showtime only, at least for a while.
Showtime needs to create an image for itself, a reputation like HBO has done (here in France, HBO is well known, Showtime isn't at all [of course, we cannot watch both channel])

And while I can imagine Showtime arranging such an exclusivity contract with MGM, I don't see how they could have influenced the selling of the show overseas by MGM.

It is not their market and so, it is not their business anymore.
