I am a "chick" but all new-age music irritates me ... except for Enya. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif Yanni = Yuk. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif</font color=yellow><hr></blockquote>
Yea, but you are a Toad the Wet Sproket fanatic, so you dont count. Not to mention that other band you posted about that no one ever heard of before. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

Then maybe he's not the guy I remember playing the Pan flute.

In fact, I am not sure if that was a real commercial or a Saturday Night Live sketch from years ago. /ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif

Ah well, Yani rules and MGKE sleeps alone. /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif Sorry, mighty, but it seems that you are too clever for your own good sometimes. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

It's ok, we still love you.

Hmm, I wonder if the decongestants are taking effect of me at this point. I've had some kind of flu since last Thursday, I think the sleep deprivation and lack of oxygen is getting to me. /ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif

Hey, Enya is pretty popular with one song at least right now in the states I know. It's a pretty piece, but I don't know if everything they play sounds the same.

Anyhow, I am as un-up-to-date on bands that anyone can be. And I've heard of Enya.

Just as a matter of interest it's not "they" it's "her" as in single female artist. She sang the theme song for the first Lord of the Rings movie. Next time you pop into a cd store ask to listen to her "best of " compilation. It's called Paint the Sky with Stars. She is really amazing. Funny thing is that she gets labeled with the "new age" label for music and she is far from it. Her first cd came out almost 17yrs ago if I'm not much mistaken and most of her music is Gaelic!
Sorry if it sounds like I'm lecturing but the woman is amazing!

NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!

Say it aint so! Twins seperated at birth!

I need therapy!

Poor, poor Marcas /ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif

Oh, thanks for the info. In all honesty about the new age music label: "new age" music was popular in the 80's I believe. IIRC. So she could still fit that category.

I do like the song that I have heard of hers. A little bit "electronic" but very nice sounding.

I love Enya. I liked her before pop culture took notice of her. But she's getting stale. Each cd sounds just like the last. She needs to evolve.

When it comes to New Age music, I like David Arkenstone. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

If anyone's into atmospheric sounds, check out my new discovery

Robert Fripp: Soundscapes.

Robert Fripp is the leader and guitartist of King Crimson, the greatest band of all time. This project, however, is completely different. He uses a guitar and two digital playback/looping machines to create, well, soundscapes. It's not music in the traditional sense, but penetrates the concept of song or composition to get right to the heart of melody.

You can find this stuff at www.disciplineglobalmobile.com. Of the CDs I've heard so far, A Blessing of Tears is my favorite. It is sadder but more beautiful than the others and was dedicated to his mother who recently passed away. It's especially haunting when you read his eulogy to her in the liner notes while listening: sadness yet acceptance with hope, and the sound reflects that amazingly well.

This kind of stuff usually ain't my cup of tea, but the man always finds new ways of impressing me. Check this out.

Beat you with a stck, stale she is not hmmmmmmmm!!!
I got hooked on Enya when Orinocco Flow came out when I was a wee lad and have been hooked ever since. I have to agree though, too much and it does seem to get a little monotonous. Still one of my fav's though!

True , but Enya has her musical style - her own "Cathedral of sound" as it were with her beautiful harmonies , athmospheric melodies and haunting voice ... "Only Time" is one of her last songs and hits ( together with the ballad from LoTR ) and it is the easily recognizable Enya-sound I believe that many love around the world .. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

( Aye , I am an Enya-fan too .. /ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif )
