All I can say is, although I have really funny sections of both shows memorized, when I'm feeling down I turn to Wash's opening dialogue in the pilot rather than Londo's "cute" speech:

"Yes... this is a green and fertile land. We shall prosper here, and we shall call it... This Land...."

I know nothing of Firefly, but that trailer had me pumped. May have to get hold of the DVD's once i've worked through B5, Farscape and Battlestar Galactica, not to mention Dr Who...

*Sighs in despair at lack of shelving in flat...*

Not to mention that of all of those series you mentioned...you could finish Firefly the quickest. Its only 13 episodes. Buy the sucker, and watch it, then you can dive into those bigger ones.
