Superbowl Commercials

I wasnt sure what part to post this in, but one commercial during the superbowl really stood out for me. Mastercard did a commercial with Richard Dean Anderson where he reprises his role of Macgyver. I loved this commercial. When it was on, I was the only person who was excited :D

For some reason I cant get the link to work, but you can view the commercial at http://priceless.com

Hee. Great.

Although I still cringe that Mastercard use that whole "Rehashed internet joke: worthless" format for their adverts.

That Macguyver commercial was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread title. That was very cool.

Just because of the way that's phrased, I have to ask: You do know that "rehashed internet joke" thing was copied from the MC commercials, and not the other way around, right? :D

I didn't catch all the commercials, so I'll have to check them on the web when I get home tonight. I did like the Leonard Nimoy Advil (Aleve?) commercial where the pain-killer kicks in just in time for him to do the Vulcan salute at the Trek convention. ;)

I also have to remember to check the GoDaddy site to see all the cuts of their commercial that the NFL wouldn't allow them to air. :)

Joe

My housemates were happy about the Budweiser horse ad with the little colt pulling the wagon... but they're horsey girls.

The rest of my housemates were pretty happy about the "magic fridge" ad.

The caveman being fired for not using FedEx in 6000 BC got a few chuckles, too, but I think overall "magic fridge" wins.

Now, where do you go if you want to see the commercials? There must be a website. Go Daddy what? :O

I saw the "magic fridge" one on the Today Show as I was leaving for work, and I laughed out loud for that one. The female critic wasn't impressed, but I thought it was quite funny. :)

The Macguyver commercial was sweet. The only other good ones IMO were the Ameriquest commercials. The loan company that "doesnt judge too quickly." As I remember they owned the top spot last year as well...

The "Magic Fridge" one from Bud wasn't bad either. Or the Bear in the Woods.

Google has all the commercials on a page, including a "play all" option that will let you watch the bunch of 'em in about 20 minutes. I'm recording a show on the HD NFL Network channel later tonight.

Regards,

Joe

Was it just me or were the commercials this year disappointing? Granted, I haven't watched the Superbowl in many years but usually watched them online.

We liked the Nimoy and Ameriquest ones the best. :)

I didn't see any of them, other than the magic fridge one, which I thought was hilarious.

The two commentators on the news seemed to think it was a wimpy set, this year. I'm disappointed I missed the Nimoy commercial. :(

Oh right, no I didn't. The "priceless" tagline thing has only been used here in the UK for a short time... maybe two yearsish. Long after I'd seen the joke on the internet.

Oh, it's been used here forever - at least five or six years. :)

I liked the unaired Budweiser "bottle-opener" commercial. The guy was lucky the bartender wasn't trying to tap a keg. :D

I think most advertisers weren't willing to spend the big bucks on fancy commercials (or any at all) for the Superbowl because the Olympics is starting soon. It's relatively cheaper to advertise during the Olympics, and you have a bigger audience. While they might spend millions to air a commercial once during the Superbowl, they could spend around the same amount to have it air during the Olympics several times a night.

I can believe that the Olympics coming up so soon may well have been a signiicant factor in those decisions. However, in terms of the US audiance tuned in at any one given time to see an ad ....... There's no way that the Olympic audiance is bigger than the Super Bowl audiance.

Yeesh...only one commercial worth mentioning: Bud Light and the grizzly bear.

Other than that, there were a whooooooooooolllllle lot of commercials that were trying to be funny and left with crickets (sp?) and mutters of corniness, and I was in a room of several thousand people (sportsbook in Vegas).
