Edmund wasn't exactly a Peter clone, as I saw it. He was the number-two man, the backup of sorts. When Peter wasn't available, such as in Dawn Treader and The Horse and His Boy, Edmund takes over with perfect serenity -- but he knows he's the next rung down. He's quite willing to bow to Caspian, too. Peter wouldn't have had much choice, he's the High King. Caspian wouldn't let him bow.
