I bought season 1 and couldn't believe the packaging it came in. The disks tend to fall out of their seating. I had to return one set for another. Before leaving the store I opened the package and found the disks were an inch away from coming out. Warner should do something when releasing the future sets.

I have a feeling most, if not all, of them are like that. That was the first thing I noticed when I bought mine. Two of the discs were already out and you have to take extra care of putting them back in and handling the packaging. OTOH, at least you can get them out without any trouble, unlike some DVD's that I've bought in the past.
 
Yes, the packaging, which Warner Bros. bought from an outside vendor, had serious problems in the R1 release. Oddly I have not heard about this problem in any of the posts about the R2 release. Warner Bros. owns the company that makes the widely hated cardboard and plastic "snapper" cases, but they don't make a case suitable for multi-disc sets. I'm sure the WHV has had a chat with whoever supplied the B5 cases in North America and that things will improve with the next release. (If for no better reason than that WHV is charging that company back for all the returned sets that they're having to eat. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

After all the problems with that I had heard about, I was amazed - and very happy! - that my set (R1, shipped all the way from Amazon.ca) was quite fine in all ways... a couple of discs were slightly loose, i.e. "hanging" on the top of the hubs, but not actually come off the hub and in no danger of slipping out or getting scratched.

I was definitely relieved. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Having to ship it back for a replacement would have been quite uncomfortable.

But yeah, they do seem to come off quite easily.
 
I have the R2 release, and the packaging seems fine to me - the discs stay in fine, though I do have a couple of small problems elsewhere:

The leaf where the booklet is kept can sometimes get caught on the plastic opposite when closing the box unless it's kept totally flat when closing.

Also, some "finger holes" would have been nice so you can actually get the set out of the slipcase without having to rip it apart.

Other than that, it seemed fine - though, I still prefer a fold out set like The Simpsons or LOTR:FOTR Extended edition.

Yep. extremely annoying, mine is half broken already because of that /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
 
Since buying my R1 set, and having two of the discs being loose when I opened it (Luckily, none were scratched.), I've been very careful with my set and haven't had a problem with discs coming off the hubs or with the book's spine or flaps getting caught. My set still looks brand new, but like I said, I'm extremely careful with my stuff.
 
Question, did anyone who got the R1 set have a watermark on the back of there disc 3 that said Monsters Inc. backwards, with an eye above it?

just wondering, becuase mine does, if i had a digi camera i'd show ya.
 
My R4 packaging is GREAT. However, yes, some semi-circles on the main case to pull the set out would be nice lol.

the set looks awsome when it is folded out full length on the table, and nothing falls out for me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
We usually don't get the snap cases for the individual discs that you guys do either

I love the book-like case design, in any case... a lot handier than the long fold-outs (I never seem to have an empty area large enough for the fold-outs if I need to open a set like that). So I'm a lot happier with that design than for example the 24 or Buffy sets (R1).

And my case looks perfect, too... then again, I think I've only opened it once or twice since I haven't bothered to watch anything but Chrysalis yet. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
I haven't had any problems with the discs coming loose. I also much prefer the book-like case than the fold-out case. It's a lot faster to open, although the book flaps do get caught when I'm trying to put it back in the case, so I try to be extra careful on that point.

I don't have a Monsters Inc. disc, but there is the text "For rental or resale" on my R2 discs and box. Is that normal? I'm pretty new to DVD's, but there is no such text on my The Gathering disc.
 
With the new Season 3 Buffy discs, the first DVD tends to come loose. I had that happen to me, & the disc had a huge scratch on it. It froze up during ep. 1, so I took it back. The next one also had a loose first disc, but the scratch wasn't as bad & the disc seemed fine. I think these companies need to come up with better ways to hold the discs in the boxes.

Two of my discs came out of their holder which is region 2 and bought from Amazon.co.uk. This could however have resulted during delivery. The discs however were not scratched so no problem there.

I also agree that having no finger holes on the main box is fustrating as is the damaging the booklet when trying to close the set.

I'm sure whatever freak accident in the replication plant produced the disc you're looking at is pretty rare. I'd contact the retailer about returning it.

Probably, depending on the country. Since DVD rental is picking up the studios are probably now packaging discs differently for the rental and retail markets in some cases, and marking the ones that can be sold either way to avoid confusion. Warner Bros. in particular, for instance, uses plastic "keep case" packages for discs going to rental stores, but uses the cheaper cardboard and plastic "snapper" cases for single disc titles being sold in the U.S. I believe the rental cases are marked "for rental only" because fans who hate snapper cases have been trying to get the keepcase version directly from distributors.

I just received Buffy season 3 today from amazon.com. Disks 1 and 2 were loose in the package. Disk 1 looks ok, but Disk 2 has a little scratch. So I will be watching Buffy this weekend instead of the final 3 eps of B5 season 1 as I had planned. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
