The Rain in Spain...

Ok, how do we all pronounce the word "Centauri?" Here are some choices:

Londo: Cent-AR-ee (rolling the 'r' slightly)

Garibaldi and Sheridan: "Cent-OR-ee"

The Regent: Cen-CHOOR-ee

Delenn: some odd Yugoslavian combination of Sheridan and Londo

"You do not make history. You can only hope to survive it."

If you pronounce the word "centaur" as sentor and add an i at the end it would come out sentoree

Seeing as he comes from there, I go with Londo's.

I also like theway he says "Mister Garabaldi." No one tops Londo!

Peter said once that when they came back after a hiatus, all he had to do was put on the costume and say "Mister Garibaldi!" and he had Londo down flat.

Different Centauri pronounce it differently.

Anyway, I wasn't asking what the "correct" way to pronounce it. I was asking what everyone's favorite one is.

You say Centauri, and I say Centori....

Everybody, sing it with me! Maybe we can get a few verses in before the Narn Bat Squad shows up.

True. I'd forgotten that his accent is regional. Doesn't change my answer, that's my favorite.

One of the B5 outtakes has Peter Jurasik and Jerry Doyle argueing over how it is pronounced.

"Cen-TOR-i."
"Cen-TAR-i."

I go the Londo route.

Dreg: "Forgive me, shiny special one. I beg of you to rip out my inadequate tongue."
Glory: "Gimme."

You know, this whole thread has got me thinking. (And you all know how dangerous that can be.

Delenn seems to adjust awfully quickly to her life as a Human after she emerges from the Chrysalis. Apart from having Ivanova do her hair, that little chat in the elevator and learning to swear from Sheridan, she isn't really shown being taught how to be a Human. And I'm convinced that she'd need lessons.

I think there is a whole untold B5 adventure here, which takes place in-between the episodes where the fate of the galaxy is hanging in the balance. But this couldn't be just another hurried TV movie. No, this would have to be:

Babylon 5: The Musical

I can see it now.

My Fair Satai

G'Kar in the Henry Higgins role
Londo as Pickering to G'Kar's Higgins
Draal as Mr. Dolittle
Delenn as Eliza

(The curtain rises on G'Kar's quarters. It is the morning after he has bet Londo the expense of the experiment that he can pass Delenn off as a Human at the ambassador's ball in a month's time. Delenn is seated stiff-backed on a bench. Londo lounges in an arm chair, reading T.S. Elliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. G'Kar, in his dressing gown, paces up and down.)

G'KAR: No, no, no Delenn. Let's try it again. "The flarn from Narn is highly prized by Varn."

DELENN: The flarn from Narn is highly prized by Varn.

G'KAR (to Londo): I think she's got it. (to Delenn) Again.

DELENN: The flarn from Narn is highly prized by Varn

LONDO: She does have it, no?

DELENN: The flarn from Narn is highly prized by Varn

G'KAR: By G'Quon I think she's got it. Again!

DELENN: (singing) The flarn from Narn is highly prized by Varn

G'KAR: Where is this prize-ed flarn?

DELENN: (singing) On Narn! On Narn!

G'KAR: And who is so fond of flarn?

DELENN: (singing) It's Varn! It's Varn!

ALL: (singing) The flarn from Narn is highly prized by Varn. The flarn from Narn is highly prized by Varn....

(Scampers away before anyone can summon the NBS)

Trust me, the NBS was never among the options I considered.

The title was enough... I was rolling on the floor laughing before I could even get to the actual flarn part. Oh the possibilities...

Lennier (singing):

I have often sat in this room before
But the candles never put me in a swoon before.
All at once am I
Like a dust-head, high;
While I tend, the cocoon where you live

Are there lilac trees in the Zocolo?
Can you hear a gak on any deck you’d likely go?
Does enchantment drip
On a shuttle trip?
No, it's just the cocoon where you live.

And oh! The towering feeling,
Just to think that I might be your mate.
The overpowering feeling,
Any moment you may suddenly pupate.

Humans stop and stare;
They don't bother me.
For there's no where else in space
That I would rather be.
Let the time go by,
I won't care if I
Can attend the cocoon where you live.
