Trek question

Fellow Trekkies, spot this TNG scene:

As part of an investigation conducted by Riker aboard the Enterprise, he communicates with Quark on DS9, asking about the Duras sisters. Which episode was that?

I ask because I'm watching the first season of DS9 for the first time and the Duras sisters appear, scheming and plotting as always. I was wondering if they tied the two series in together with that plot device.

Thanks in advance.

This was the Seventh season episode "Firstborn"; mainly a Worf/Alexander storyline.

As far as I know they didn't continue this storyline with DS9. I think they just occasionally mixed a character or two back and forth between the series just for recongnition factor.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
I have all the TNG DVDs, so I can go check it out. I just needed to know where to look (178 episodes is a lot).

So, how are you folks enjoying the DS9 DVDs? I've watched the first disc so far. It's pretty seeing new (to me) Trek. I got into DS9 about season 5 or so and only saw a couple from before that.

The beginning of the premier was probably the best intro to a show ever. Wolf 359, with Locutus and everything, seen from the perspective of one of its victims. Sweet.

I've been in horrid meetings all week, I have not even turned on my television since the morning news.

Anyhow, I do like DS9. I am not sure when mine will arrive via amazon.com. It may already have arrived.

I'm enjoying the heck out of my DS9 DVDs. It is my favorite ST show. Perhaps because it is similar to B5 in that it takes place on a space station, and B5 is definitely my favorite all-time scifi TV show.

A few years ago, a friend of my adult daughter said that DS9 was a soap opera in space. I guess that could be true as it has continuing characters that develop throughout the show (some of them, anyway). I wonder if that person would call B5 a "soap opera in space".

I'm not a fan of soap operas. I think the actors are quite good, but the stories I never could quite get into.

So I would not call DS9 or B5 soap operas in space. But for those who like the soap opera genre, I suppose that is what they are referring to. The fact that characters develop over time.

As I hate soap operas, I agree it is insulting, but I would point out that space scifi shows were called space operas, and westerns were called horse operas in years past.

I think the point has been missed when it comes to refering to B5 as a soap opera. I don't think anyone is meaning to describe it as a show with no predetermined ending or use it as a derogatory statement. While I do not watch or like soap operas, I don't think it is an insult to use the term when referring to B5.

For example, not all of my friends or coworkers are readily familiar with what a story arc is nor do they all watch television shows that really build onto the story week after week. So it's just quicker to say that the show is similar to a "soap opera" in that it's important to be familiar with the events of each episode. I tell people that B5 will mean more to them in the end if they can see all the episodes, so they can see the whole story and the how the characters grow. I think it's the context of how the term "soap opera" is used that's important here.

Nowadays, enough people are familiar with the show 24, so maybe that would be a better description since it is also a show that you should really see each week if you want to follow along. Maybe saying B5 is like 24 wouldn't leave the same derogatory taste in one's mouth as saying B5 is like a soap opera.

To me, soap opera refers to something that is an overblown melodrama, with a never ending storyline, and that's something that B5 is not.
