What are you watching now?

Recoil, David Lynch is one of those dudes that's completely in his own world, and most either love it or hate it. I used to hate it when my artsy college friends tried to get me into it, but than years later I saw Blue Velvet and Mullholland Drive and I was hooked. The weirdness, the awkward collision of light and dark, the dream logic, the coffee... I just love it all.

The key is to not care too much if it makes sense and try to enjoy the spectacle.

Yea I have heard that about him, and am trying to get through it. There is some humor/querkieness to it that is amusing.

Oh, and on topic....I have just switched to my latest show to watch on DVD while on my elliptical. Previous shows I watched while working out at home were: Stargate SG! (was ok) and Veronica Mars (surprisingly excellent). I just finished Disc 1 of Season 1 of: The X-Files!

Man, early alien abduction stuff. Eugene Victor Tooms. I forgot how much gold those early episodes were. All that on the first disc alone!

It's been at least 10 years since I had stopped watching X-Files so I figure its a perfect time to go through the series again. I did watch it through on TV, but am sure I missed a lot of episodes here and there. Plus, there are like 9 seasons, so that will get me through several months on the ol' elliptical.

You hear that, Markas?

Oh, wait.....

My thoughts exactly :)

Funny .. I was just thinking about rewatching the X-Files at some point in the future earlier today.

But then I remembered how frustrating an experience it ended up being the first time around. Maybe I'll go through them in a non-completist way - only watching standalone episodes that have good ratings on TV.com or something,

Most of them are standalone episodes. Truthfully, a large percentage of the episodes were great. Yea, there was no pre-planned arc for the mythology stuff, and it was directionless, but so what, they were still fun episodes, and who didn't look forward to seeing the big mean dude with the syringe?

Yeah, I loved the standalone episodes. I think I could probably enjoy the show again now - the first time around, I felt completely "cheated" when it turned out the makers didn't really know where they were going, as I had really gotten into various plotlines. Now, I would know what to expect at least.

why is it that when black guys shave their heads and grow goaties, they generally look completely badass .. while white guys, when they do the same, look completely gay?

Well some of the white guys who do that look like neo-nazis, because they ARE neo-nazis. Now, if you want to walk up to some of them, and tell them they look gay, I think that would be really amusing, but I hope you are well-armed, or are traveling with bodyguards.

Man you guys are reminding me of when Sunday nights was the shit for TV. Simpsons then X-Files... oh yeah. And I'm talkin' 'bout when The Simpsons was still hilarious and the X-Files was still good. And remember how Scully was the ultra fantasy chick for us geeks? Ah the good ol' days.

Oh, another thing about Deep Space 9 - halfway into season 5 now ...

.. you know what sucks even more than being O'Brien? Being Bashir.

Imagine being good-looking, smart (genetically engineered smart), charming, funny, all that. Imagine dating the hottest woman on the station ... just to be dumped ... for Rom.

I think the writers were trying to make a point there that looks aren't everything, and that your personality and your sense of humour are important too.

It might have worked better if Rom had a personality or a sense of humour.

Yep- ya think geeks wrote the storyline about the gorgeous casino girl (seriously, that chick's body is ultra slammin') ditching the slick dude for a the uber-geek engineer?

I had a chance to meet Chase Masterson once... but my then evil girlfriend forbad me from approaching her because she was physically "too perfect".

What a nasty piece of work... I'm well shot of her!

* Sisko is coolness personified.

He annoyed me for 7 years. I couldn't stand Sisko. His coolness left me cold. I don't know how to explain it other than Avery's boredom with the roll showed through his performance, at least for me.

To do some stereotyping .. why is it that when black guys shave their heads and grow goaties, they generally look completely badass .. while white guys, when they do the same, look completely gay?

Your point, exactly? :p

I'm currently watching B5 S5 again. I just finished The Fall of Centauri Prime. It's when the 5th season really hit its stride.

Yeah, well .. you like Janeway. What do you know? :p ;)

I enjoyed DS9 for the most part. I liked Kira at the beginning with her Starfleet bashing.

It was always hard for me to picture Sisko as anyone other than Hawk, always kind of whispering, "Spensah!"

Everytime I tuned in Voyager after giving up on it (season 3, I think. Started losing interest in season 2, didn't make it to the end of season 3) .. it was
* Some space/time/cheese anomaly is threatening the ship
* Seven of Nine and the Doctor are doing a tea party because they want to be human
* Neelix is jumping around the holodeck with blue people.
* The crew tries fifty different kinds of radiations to kill the anomaly, and finally finds the right one
*... Janeway gives a boring, patronizing speech on the supreme moral values of the Federation.

Is it right to blame Janeway for the horrible, horrible dialogue/monologue she was constantly given? Not sure. I've liked Kate Mulgrew in every other role I've seen her in.

I'm currently watching "Pushing Daisies" and I'm totally loving it. I understand the humpour and find it funny...my father doesn't understand the humour at all... but still finds it funny anyway.

I needed to pick up a new shelving unit the other day, and I glanced at a few of the very nice and cheap Franchise Collections that are all the rage these days and decided to pick up the Riddick Trilogy.

Pitch Black was good, it wasn't great, and it had its flaws, but it was an interesting concept and execution of said concept.

Dark Fury wasn't all that good, they amped everything up to unbelievable levels and lost what made Pitch Black so appealing in the first place. I'm also not a fan in any way of Frank Chung's art style.

Now tonight after the Cubs game it will be on to Chronicles Of Riddick.
