But Gideon's encounter with such a vessel takes place in 2259, long before the White Star fleet wipes out the Advanced Destroyer Group. And the White Stars only destroy the ships, they don't destroy the bases where they were built, or kill the engineers who developed them. So Earth still has the technology to build more. If you destroyed all the prototypes of GM's 2002 model SUVs you wouldn't affect their ability to get the cars to market in the least.

Re: Ain\'t It Cool News Has A Review Of B5:Rangers!!!!!!

1) We know, for a fact, that Earth had the technology to build the Advanced Destroyers in the first place.

2) We know that we never saw any indication that Sheridan or anyone else did anything to destroy said technology.

So the most reasonable assumption, barring positive evidence of its destruction, is that the technology still exists. Can I prove that it wasn't destroyed? No. It is notoriously hard to prove a negative. Can you offer any evidence whatsoever that it was destroyed? No, because it doesn't exist. So based on existing evidence I would say that my conclusion is the most probable, without appealing to sources of information outside the show.

And since the topic at hand is what the possible appearance of Shadow-like ships in a new B5 sequel tells us about the possible series, I don't think it is fair to rule information gleaned from other B5 sequels somehow out-of-bounds. Continued EarthGov access to Shadow technology is not only confirmed in the unfilmed Crusade script, but in the JMS short story, "Hidden Agendas" by JMS.

Re: Ain\'t It Cool News Has A Review Of B5:Rangers!!!!!!

Even without the evidence in Crusade and elsewhere that Earthgov is still working on Shadow Tech, it would be much more likely that they would Keep that research than that they would destroy it.

Earthgov has as many greedy, grasping individuals as Any Government. None of these people would Ever give up something so potentially lucrative. Or powerful. It goes against their very nature.

Always bet on Greed and Avarice. It's a predictable character fault.

All of which leads to the conclusion that Earthgov is still actively pursuing that research.

Along with the Drazi who we also know were hoarding Shadow Tech.

And Valen only knows how many Other races were doing the same.

You couldn't possibly *know* this for a fact after watching Babylon 5 (the series). Of course, you could have suspected - but it's one thing to suspect, another to have knowledge. As far as we knew, with Clark dead the new administration may have (wisely) destroyed any records/remnants they had of the Shadowtech. The truth was revealed only in Crusade.

I never did. I actually said...

I'm quite open-minded to either possibility. Needless to say, we won't know for sure until the movie is aired.

That's the part of your post I was referring to. You seemed to be arguing that we couldn't count what we learned in Crusade in discussing what was happening in Rangers, but had to limit ourselves to what was shown in B5.

Well, I managed to get through most of the thread without spoiling myself too much. From what I've heard, yeah, it's been done before, but in case you all haven't figured it out yet, let me let you in on a little secret:

IT'S ALL BEEN DONE BEFORE.

Yup, folks. I'm not kidding. We tell stories that have been told from the beginning of time. They just have different names, different places, different levels of technology- but in the end we re-tell those stories.

Why do you think JMS included the word "Babylon?"

Re: Ain\'t It Cool News Has A Review Of B5:Rangers!!!!!!

Several eps from B5, especially season one, took tired old scifi stories and told them in a different way. I'm sure JMS can take the ghost ship idea and breathe life into it again.

I can't believe that some of you weren't pleased by the review. I think that it was about as positive as it could be.

I was pleased with the overall positive tone of the article.

Not at all. You misunderstood me. I was referring to how we learned in Crusade that the EA was still using Shadow tech. Therefore, if you had mentioned the fact that Crusade contained Shadow-like ships before the series had aired, your comments may have been considered a spoiler.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression, but I'm basically just discussing what should/should not be considered spoiler material with regards to posting on this thread.

If you read my previous posts, you'll see that I considered the mention of shadow-like ships in B5LR as a spoiler (and therefore used spoiler boxes). I'm now trying to justify my thinking.

I agree with PsionTen. Considering that AICN is almost considered a hostile fan, this is very positive.

Re: Ain\'t It Cool News Has A Review Of B5:Rangers!!!!!!

How can anyone get excited about a review by someone who signs themself 'Reflux' and doesn't even provide a source?

Re: Ain\'t It Cool News Has A Review Of B5:Rangers!!!!!!

Well, most reviewers on AICN can't give too much info or they can get in trouble.

Needless to say, he seemed to be on the level. Even his bit about "this woman jumps down a tube and hangs in space and uses Kung Fu to fire weapons" was cryptically verified by JMS. We've seen Sarah Cantrell jumping down the tube in the trailer and JMS was saying how the weapons pod was going to be radically different and interesting if they can pull it off. He also mentioned that it involved wirework. So you have to figure Sarah is sort of hanging below the ship, almost like a WW2 gunnery officer, with a full weapons interface that allows them to respond to her body movements.

This can either look very cool or laughingly bad. Reflux seemed to like it, so we'll just have to see.
