Calling of the Heart Chapter 12

Chapter 12 Day Two

Latiya, again, found herself in the courtroom, staring down the Rangers in the room. Chantal entered the room, looking proud.

“Anla’shok Chantal, you said you have a new interrogator?” Turvall asked.

“Yes, it’s me. The next witness is a woman who has met Latiya a few times and knows her the best out of all of us. Her name is Mein Terran. Mein, will you please come to the front of the room?

A woman with black hair and dark eyes wearing a leather outfit stood up and walked up to her. Latiya smiled at Mein. She remembered her.

“May I call you Mein?” Chantal asked.

“Call me whatever you want.” Mein replied.

“Okay. How long have you known Latiya Sheridan?”

“Four years on and off.”

“Did she ever indicate any want of killing people?”

“Of course not! This girl would never want to kill anyone!”

“Do you think she ever wanted to kill John Sheridan?”

Mein looked at Chantal in disgust. “What a poor was of repaying someone who has taken her in and cared for her! I’m sorry, but does this girl look like someone who is ungrateful for everything that has been given to her? I mean, she’s had her problems, but she would never take it out on-“

A Ranger raced into the courtroom and stood in front of Turvall. “We just received a message from the captors.”

“What did it say?” Turvall said.

“ ‘I hope you die, Latiya Sheridan. If you die, you cannot save the Sheridans.’”

Latiya bolted out of her chair. “No! They can’t do that! Please, you have to find them!” she yelled hysterically, sobbing loudly as Chantal and Mein tried to hold her back, “You can’t let them do that! Please, I…I love them all!”

Turvall stared at her in surprise.

“You have to let me find them! Please! After that, you can kill me! All I want is to see them safe and for them to know that I deeply care for them!”

Turvall smiled. “You may look for them, but you are no longer Anla’shok unless you prove you are worthy enough of such a title.”

Latiya smiled joyously and bowed to him. “Thank you.”

Anyway, I think the butler did it.
