I'm starting to get P.O.d

I\'m starting to get P.O.d

Since Crusade has been produced, I have been trying to get the series on tape. I wanted to get all the episodes in order - because like B5, it is a "chaptered" story. I was successful the first time it aired on TNT weekly. When they reaired it, I wanted to put "A Call to Arms" at the beginning of the first tape, so I taped the movie and then started taping the series over. Unfortunately, I used the same tapes.

About halfway through TNT's rerun (at 6am on weekdays), My cable company began to run EBS tests five minutes after six. Two out of three tapes had these interruptions. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Then the show moved to SCIFI. I thought, "Cool. I'll just tape them again." And then they proceeded to air it in an order that made no sense. I taped it anyway - now all three tapes were bunk. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Then SCI FI aired it again. I had now devised a plan where all I needed was for the series to be run twice, and I could get them all in the right order. Bam. EBS tests again. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Now it's on again. I'm trying to wedge the episodes in where they belong in order because my tapes are already formatted at SLP. So what happens today? Three episodes in and there is no sound for the last fifteen minutes of the show. /forums/images/graemlins/devil.gif

All I can figure is that someone is doing this on purpose to f**k with me. This is the fifth time through a thirteen episode series. It should not be so difficult to enjoy a television show.

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Sci-Fi's aired 'em in JMS's preferred order the first three times, and so far in the fourth run. Perhaps you're referring to "War Zone" being aired second to last? It should probably have been aired first or not at all, and "Racing the Night" second. JMS probably just didn't want to have "War Zone" aired last because it's leave a bad taste in our mouths (That's my theory. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ).

If you cut commercials, you can fit "A Call to Arms" and all the Crusade episodes on two tapes in EP (SLP). It makes for a compact package, though I can't stand EP (SLP) myself.

ps. The police did a public service announcement in tonight's CSI that I was taping, right in the court scene. Argh! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

No such problems with satellite reception. Excellent picture and sound, plus no break-ins to main program. Only downside is T-storms will occasionally interrupt the signal. So far I've been lucky. Only had to retape one episode of B5. I have a complete set of Cursade but with commercials so am retaping as it shows without commercials so I can transfer to CD. When I do, I'll put "War Zone" first, then "Racing in the Night" on the same CD. A commerical free version of "A Call to Arms" is on its own CD. Remaining episodes will be JMS' order.

Re: I\'m starting to get P.O.d

I'm curious as to what the announcement was about. Was it "please, help us find this child who might be kidnapped?" Or perhaps "be aware that road X has just collapsed"? Even a storm alert?

What did they find important enough to interrupt the show with? If it was not a serious and immediate threat then they probably did wrong there.

Re: I\'m starting to get P.O.d

There is actually one reason why I wouldn't edit commercials out of taped shows - and why announcements such as this wouldn't bother me too much. Their future historical and entertainment value. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I imagine that watching something taped off TV a few years ago will, in a couple of years, be pretty interesting - not just for the show but the commercials as well. At least for me. I don't really watch a lot of TV or a lot of commercials, but it should be interesting to see how things have evolved, what kind of stuff was considered a good commercial some years before, whether it has aged well... sort of a nice little personal sociological and media-related study. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't see much historical value but could be entertaining. However, I like watching an episode straight through without interruptions so will continue to edit out commercals as I tape. Besides, I alrealy have a complete set of Cursade tapes with commercials. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: \"JMS preferred order\"

I must confess that even though Crusade is JMS' baby, his preferred order differs from mine, and there are exhaustive threads in this forum as to what the proper order actually should be, so I won't list mine. But let's just say that the crew's uniforms don't switch back and forth and no one knows anyone before they've met them.

It was an "Amber Alert" from the state police for the local police of a town that's over 300 miles away and included no mention of WHEN the child was supposedly abducted, just WHERE. It was 100% verbal, and included only a partial description of the child (age: 14-15; race: white; hair color and length: blonde & short). They'd have been much better off showing a recent picture of the child on the local FOX news, which would be on in 12 minutes.

Re: I\'m starting to get P.O.d

Yea, the times the Amber alert works, I thought, they usually had a vehicle description and a license plate number.

Broadcast tv is an annoyance, but at least they interrupted it for something important. Even if it wasn't the most informative alerts. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Re: I\'m starting to get P.O.d

Well, they had a vehicle description, sort of.

"We interrupt this program to activate the Pennsylvania Emergency Alert System. Important information will follow from the Pennsylvania State Police." The Scranton Police Department have reported an Amber Alert. The Scranton Police is searching for a white female, 14 to 15 years of age, with short blonde hair. She was last seen being pulled into the passenger window of an older, dark in color, four door sedan vehicle, possibly a Ford Taurus, by a white male. The vehicle was being driven by an unknown person. The vehicle was last seen headed south on Boulevard Avenue in the city of Scranton. Anyone with information, should immediately contact the police by calling 911. This has been an Amber Alert for the Scranton Police Department."

No info. on WHEN it happened. No info on the build of the girl (thin, average, or heavy-set). Personally, I don't remember verbal descriptions (but I probably will remember it now after transcribing the entire thing, word-for-word). I would remember a picture though, like they could have shown on the news 12 minutes later. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Hey, ROLLEYES is back. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m starting to get P.O.d

I have a prediction to make. /forums/images/graemlins/devil.gif Soon what you'll be hearing interrupting your favorite programs will be more like:

"Braaaaaaaap, braaaaaaaaaaaap, braaaaaaaaaaaaap"

"This is the emergency broadcast system.

We have every reason to believe that something illegal is occuring sometime today in this state.

If you have any information, please contact your local police or call 555-5555 immediately.

This has been an alert."

"Brraaaaaaaaap, brraaaaaaap, brrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaap"

TiVo: The ultimate solution

With a TiVo, it doesn't matter what order a network shows episodes. You record and save all the episodes on the hard drive on your TiVo first. Then you can transfer them to a VCR tape in any order you want.

Also, if you are trying to cut out commercials, you aren't dealing with a live transfer. If something gets messed up you just rewind and try it again.

All my tape archiving is done now as TiVo to VCR transfers. It's great.

Re: TiVo: The ultimate solution

I suspect I'd go over the limit TIVO allows though. I have a LOT of tapes. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: I\'m starting to get P.O.d

why not record the shows to your HD?

Hyp, I believe the question was directed at ElScorcho and not you in particular... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks, Lyta. I get so lost in some of these messageboard conversations. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

That's okay. My answer would have been pretty much the same.

Still, sorry about that. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm not the best, nor brightest, in this world. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
