Lost: Whatever The Case May Be (Spoilers)

So, Lost is finally back from its seasonal break. Yay!

The beginning of the episode felt a bit slow. I'm still not a fan of the Kate-Sawyer relationship, but I sure did like when she headbutted him and when she ran in and grabbed the case when he was high up in the tree dropping it.

Boone is still yummy to look at.

The furtherance of Kate's backstory was quite interesting. I can't say I honestly saw it coming that she was working with the bank robbers for some reason. It's not that it's something that I would doubt she'd do now, but I guess I just got fooled into thinking that the bank backstory was back before she became naughty.

I like how quick Jack is to pick up Kate's maneuvering. The slight-of-hand to get the key was a nice moment helping to increase the level of threat Kate potentially has. And then there was the part of her backstory about her orchestrating the bank robbery specifically so she could get into a safety deposit box, and not just flat out to rob the bank. That was a good twist; it helps reveal how very intelligent Kate is.

The scenes between Sayid and Shannon were nice: some parts cute, some good to help advance Shannon's character who's kinda just been sitting in the bacground a lot. Also, I liked the scenes between Charlie and the black woman whose name I don't know. Poor Charlie, it makes me just wanna give him a great big ol' hug.

It was also good to finally see Sun again too.

I really like the relationship between Kate and Sawyer. You have two people with similar criminal backgrounds just taunting and playing with each other. I like Kate better with Sawyer rather than Jack. Jack's always skeptical of Kate, and with good reason.

I was glad to finally see Shannon given some extra screentime too. Oh, she's gorgeous! *yum yum* :p Hopefully she'll get even more screentime next week.

I feel bad for Charlie, as he thinks he's the reason Claire's gone. I noticed her name wasn't in the main credits either, so it may be a while before we see her again, assuming she is still alive, which I believe she is.

I'm just really glad the show's back on, and I really look forward to the rest of the season.

Tonight's episode was very good. Along with the season premiere of Alias, this was an excellent night of TV.

I kind of predicted that. I wasn't positive, but I strongly considered that possibility. That's one thing about a show like this; you start to guess the twists, and occasionally you get it right. However, I didn't see the toy plane coming and I'm still confused over what the meaning is.

As good as the conflict and intrigue are, it's these moments that make the show so special. I love it when ensemble shows join up unlikely pairs of characters. Using Sayid to bring out usefulness in Shannon was great, and the black lady (we really need to remember her name) praying with Charlie was my favorite moment in the episode.

I think next week is a Boone/Shannon-centric episode. Something's weird about those two. They may supposedly be brother and sister, but I'll be there's something's bizarre in their past. My guess... They didn't grow up together, and didn't know each other existed. Then they *dated* each other for a while only to somehow find out they're siblings. Now, they yell at each other a lot just to keep from wigging out over their past attraction to each other. Mmmm, then again, the writers probably thought of something a little better than that. :)

Out of the 14 main cast members, I think she's the one that borders on recurring status.

She's missing from at least one of the early publicity group shots I saw in a magazine.

Also, I'm not positive, but I think her name is only in the opening credits when she's actually in an episode. I think everyone else's name is there even if they're out for an episode (kind of the way Tracy Scoggins was in the credits for every episode of Crusade even though she was only in 3 out of 13 episodes).

That's really strange because I've speculated almost exactly what you've said. It may very well be right, with two of us suspecting that.

BTW, the black lady's name is Rose.

You're probably right. I hadn't noticed that up until tonight.

Emilie DiRavin (Claire) was actually a last minute replacement for the original actress, and was made a recurring cast member (in order to hide some of the cost when the show was still unaired and they didn't know what a hit they had on their hands). She is considered a member of "the 14".

Lots of folks see that twist coming with Boone and Shannon. Another rumor/theory floating around is that there's a gay character hidden in the mix. Boone has been a favorite of this speculating, so I imagine Shannon's line about Locke being Boone's new boyfriend will probably feed that speculation. "New" didn't realize seem emphasized enough for me to take it that she was serious.

Loved the expansion of Shannon's character, and yes, next week is supposed to be Boone/Shannon backstory.

I'm thinking that maybe the plane is something that belonged to her father (perhaps he flew a plane like that?). Maybe he had a heart attack that she feels is due to disappointment of her?

Jack's begging Sayid to take him to Danielle, and Shannon translated the maps to have something to do with a fish movie's closing theme? Something will probably come of this in the next few weeks or before the season ends, at least.

I really like what we've seen of Rose so far. And I'm thinking that she knows she would feel an emptiness inside if her husband had died, and therefore, he's not dead. She's mentioned both times she's had a big roll in an episode that she doesn't believe he's dead.

Previews look like things are gonna heat up next week.

I've wondered if there might be a gay character on the show. I don't visit an Lost message boards, so I've heard none of the speculation going on, but I've wondered about Boone even before tonights "new boyfriend" comment. Ian has played a bi guy in the past, so I would guess he could be open to the idea of playing such a character. I've also wondered if Michael might be a gay character. Sure, he's got a kid, but there are plenty of gay and bi people in this world that have biologically had children before they come out, and that might add reason to why Michael and Walt's mom weren't together for most (or any?) of Walt's life.

I don't know if you or any of the other's caught this, but the song she was singing (although she was singing it in French) was "Somewhere...beyond the sea"

Not sure yet what that would have to do with the story, it may just be mad ramblings of someone trapped on an island at sea for so long, or it could have to do with the purpose of the island itself...

I don't think Danielle is mad, they're making too big a deal of calling her crazy at every opportunity. I definitely agree she's very cryptic, but, I believe if we understood her message, it would be accurate. She's just not real proficient with getting her point across (probably spent too much time with those damn vorlons...No offense to any Koshes around)

Anyone have the English words to somewhere beyond the sea?

Yea, figgered that was it (although I've never seen it, and couldn't remember the name), but does anyone know a "song site" that would have the lyrics?

Google'd it:

Somewhere beyond the sea
Somewhere waiting for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailing

Somewhere beyond the sea
Somewhere watching for me
And if I could fly like birds on high
Then straight to her arms
I’d go sailing

It’s far beyond the stars
It’s near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon

We’ll meet beyond the shore
And we’ll kiss just as before
And happy we’ll be beyond the sea and
Never again I’ll go sailing

Yeah

Oh

Listen up

Yeah

It’s far beyond the stars
It’s near beyond the moon
I know, yes I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon

We’ll meet, I know we’ll meet beyond the shore
And we’ll kiss just as before
And happy we’ll be beyond the sea
And never again I’ll go sailing
And never again I’ll go sailing
And never again I’ll go sail sailing, yeah

Thanks,

Not a whole lot there, lots of moon, stars, sea, sailing, kisses and love. If it does mean anything it's probably out of context without the exact phrases connecting to exact parts of the map.

Well, apparently the French version of the song La Mer, is different when translated into English.

The sea
which one sees dancing along the clear gulfs
to sparkles of silver.
The sea
Of changing sparkles
Under the rain

The sea
Confuses the summer sky's sheep
With angels so pure.
The sea
Shepherdess of blue infinity.

Look!
Next to the ponds
Those tall wet reeds.
Look!
Those white birds
And those rusty houses [cabins of boats?]

The Sea
Has rocked them [like a baby]
Along the clear gulfs.
The Sea
Has rocked my heart for life.

The Sea
Has rocked them [like a baby]
Along the clear gulfs.
And with a song of love
The Sea
Has rocked my heart for life.

Understand though, I didn't translate it. The reason I believe the song I posted is the one they are referring to is two fold:

1) I have seen Finding Nemo (which is the movie Shannon is talking about) and know thats the song at the end of the movie. :)

2) The MELODY she was singing was the same as that song goes.

As far as translations...thats up to whoever wrote the episode. Are you sure those arent referring to some of the notations she put near the formulas?

It is accurate, though. The French version has the sparkles and blue infinity in it. I still don't get much out of it.

I want my Mira! When's she coming back?

I agree Recoil, but apparently the French Version of Finding Nemo has different words when translated to English, than the English version of Finding Nemo, I think. And yes, that's the point, that's why Shannon said the notations on the map sounded familiar, they're from the Finding Nemo song. Also, now that I think about it, La Mer was the song Danielle's music box played, was it not?

I would expect Mira will be back in the next few weeks, as Jack was pretty insistent about going to see her, he's going to become more insistent I believe rather soon. I believe in 3 or 4 episodes they are going to find Claire, or at least completely know the reasons and what her plight are and some background about Ethan. So, Danielle may be back at that point, or the episode before?

Mira Furlan said "It's not a one shot deal", so she will be back, just a question of when. No spoilers or IMDB (which of course would be updated from knowledge gained from spoilers) have yet disclosed precise timing of Danielle's return.
