The "SCI-FI" Channel

Re: The \"SCI-FI\" Channel

If it ain't on the page, it ain't on the stage, to quote somebody whom I've forgotten.

Re: The \"SCI-FI\" Channel

IMO, the problem with the Rangers movie is that it tried to be a movie and a pilot for a new show. In so doing, it did neither very well. The amount of exposition and character introduction made little room for a story. The plot lacked depth and was highly predictable (who hadn't guessed who the bad guy was?) and didn't really add anything to what we already knew about the Rangers themselves.

So the fans weren't impressed because of their expectations. If I'd never seen B5, I don't think I'd know what to make of it. If there wasn't going to be a series, they should have made a movie . Something exciting and fun to watch without the excess baggage.

Re: The \"SCI-FI\" Channel

Then no wonder I liked it, when I usually don't like pilots. I always prefer character development, even over plot development.

Not that I don't like good plots! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif I just mean I'm more likely to watch a show if I find the characters interesting and the plot a bit weak than visa versa.

As much as I hate to admit it (stress that word HATE! /forums/images/icons/mad.gif ) I think that Savant B5 has a point. It might kill me personally to see what programing the Sci-Fi channel is drifting towards. But it does sound like it is making them more money.

And we all know that is how the world of broadcast tv is run, right? /forums/images/icons/rolleyes.gif

I can still wish for their ultimate demise, though. /forums/images/icons/devil.gif

Well, not demise. Just bad enough times so that they are motivated to move back towards shows like B5-Crusade-Rangers, Star Trek, Earth 2 (not everyone's fav, but I liked it), Blake's 7, etc, etc.

Re: The \"SCI-FI\" Channel

Blake's 7. There's something I haven't heard that in awhile. Good ole PBS weekend late night. Monty Python, Blake's 7 and Doctor Who. Too bad it's not like that anymore. Maybe they should have a channel... /forums/images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Re: The \"SCI-FI\" Channel

*bitterly weeping*

My "local" PBS station is so cheap I don't think it has ever aired Blake's 7. I only saw a few episodes at a friends house when I was in Minnesota.

And I don't think they ever aired all of DR. Who. The first doctor I only saw when I went to college in New Mexico. THEIR PBS station showed all of DR. W.

Yea, if finances were no problem, I'd like to see a BBC sci-fi and comedy station.

I miss "Yes, Minister", too. God, that was a funny show! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif And not only because of (help me out here) Nigel Hawthorn (???)

But the man who played the minister is a very talented actor, as well. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Re: The \"SCI-FI\" Channel

If you like Brit scifi and comedy, you'd love RED DWARF (if you don't already) - which is both. I'd seen it on PBS in the mid-90's and it is hilarious. They have some videos out there. I'm not sure about DVDs.

Re: The \"SCI-FI\" Channel

Red Dwarf is the one and only British science fiction they show. One half hour a week. And I think they have never shown the last season.

/forums/images/icons/rolleyes.gif

I really need to find a satellite company that can still give me my "local" network channels.

I want my local news. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

But I'd love to have access to other channels showing British sci-fi and comedy.

Can satellite have PBS stations?

Yes, an incredibly versatile actor. His portrayal of King George in The Madness of King George was brilliant. Sadly he died earlier this year and will be much missed.

Paul Eddington. Good sit com actor but hasn't done much else

Two Ronnies, Fawlty Towers, and The Goodies! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif /forums/images/icons/grin.gif British humor...

Re: The \"SCI-FI\" Channel

Hi,
Talk about British TV. Tony Anholt(Tony Verdeschi) from Space 1999 died also due to a brain tumor. He was only in his 60's.

Space 1999! Who turned on the Wayback Machine?

Can't for the life of me remember anything about that show except a big white RV or something, but I remember really liking it when I was a grasshopper.
