Didn't see that one coming. Good news, though - I've been rather ambivalent to the show in the latter half of the season, not really finding myself very engaged by the story arc or by any of the mysteries. But it's had rather decent standalone plots, great acting, and can always get better with Joss in charge.

I don't know if they'd air it later what with its going to be on the season one DVDs and broadcast as part of season one outside of the US.

Dollhouse season 1 finished airing in the UK this past week. We had the thirteenth episode, which may well have been my favouirte of the season so far. Overall, I found the show to be good enough to keep my interest for me to carry on watching the second season. It hasn't hit the highs of Joss's previous works yet.
I think my biggest problem with it is that Joss's shows usually have really interesting characters in them, ones that didn't really need whataver story was going on around them to hold my interest. They could have just been chatting to each other and I would probably still have enjoyed it. However, the dolls have different personalities each week so we couldn't get to know them. The Dollhouse staff were obviously fleshed out a bit more, although Topher annoys the crap out of me (I think it's the actor more than anything), Boyd seemed a bit bland and Tehmoh Penikett isn't a good actor IMO.
I know that sounds largely negative, but overall it was decent enough to keep me around for the next season.

Oh, I think this show -- if it's allowed to live a little longer -- will prove to be Joss's most audacious product yet.
And the dolls are definitely going to come into their own next season, if the 13th ep. is any guide. I have a feeling this is yet another example of "Joss needs a season to warm up."

On the contrary, the true, original persona of the "dolls" is constantly showing hints of itself, and trying to break through. That is a major plot element of the show. We are being challenged to get to know them...

Yup. Gotta agree. I wonder if he will get deeper into the religious implications of being able to wipe personalities and souls etc.
I loved Buffy from episode 1. Firefly didn't need a season to be acknowledged as being awesome. I'll admit Angel took a season to get going (I'm rewatching Buffy and Angel with my wife. I had actually forgotten how rubbish some Angel season 1 episodes were. We're now in Season 2 and the introduction of Lorne made the show much better)
Well, I thought that while watching BSG, but thought it might be the writing. But I feel the same way in Dollhouse.
That is a good point. But my point was that having them sitting round a table just chatting away wouldn't interest me in the same way that Firefly or Buffy characters would've.

I just saw the unaired "extra" episode called "Epitaph One" last night. It was pretty cool and a good supplement to the show. I think its pretty clear they made it because they didn't think they would be getting renewed, and it helped show the outcome of what was taking place in the series, and the impact the characters had. Would have been a good finale of sorts if the show had stopped.
As it stands, it still does help move the story along and show whats really at stake.
There was a line or two in there, when the kids/drifters are going through the memories of Dollhouse employees and flashing back to the Fox Pilot episode. The characters make a smart ass comment like "They have all this technology and they use it as a brothel?" as a joke and a dig to how the show got started. I think its really clear Fox was behind that aspect of the show, not the writers, and they tried to explain it off as "hey it wasnt out idea and yea we think its silly too" in this episode. The show did get away from that as the season progressed, thankfully.
