New Dr Who leaked...(possibly spoilers)

That amused me. Yeah BBC, it's been "leaked". Not trying to get the publicity machine going are yah?

I have a friend over in the UK who's recording them all for me on DVD, which I will enjoy on my region free DVD player here. :D I can't wait.

Apparently Sci-Fi channel decided to pass on the new "Who" which I find to be one of their more idiotic decisions (amongst the many).

Now we Americans have to hope they find a home for it here somewhere.

Ahh, Ant vs the BBC...

But yeah, probably was the case. Worked wonders for Battlestar Galactica...

Recorded DVDs don't have region coding do they? Surely you want a system that can support PAL?

I'll be seeing it on the CBC and I live in the United States. :D

CE may have one. The DVD player software built into most computers supports PAL. The DVD players made in Japan, China and Korea normally have a hidden menu that allows European and Asian DVDs to be played. Details of videohelp and dvdhacks can be found on the web.

So, Tibbets, when will it be on CBC? I get CBC Windsor. I also get BBC America. Does anyone know if it will be on there?

CE, I think a lot of DVD decks that don't advertise it will actually play PAL. My three year old Philips will. But, it doesn't convert to NTSC. Still, it plays back just fine on my Samsung HDTV. I think most HD and digital TVs will play PAL just fine. If you have a digital TV, try it. MY system played lots of Ann Arbor Film Festival entries from around the world, with trouble only from a few that weren't burnt quite right.

So I was bad... i downloaded it.
:D
Great fun from the start, with hints of something deeper throughout. Eccleston was different but a joy to watch. Piper was great, and hot. The writing was well up to Davies standards on other series.

The title sequence was a bit weak though. I'll be watching at the end of the month!!

Roll on the British sci-fi revivial!!

My friend in the UK is an American who married a Brit. So her personal TV (which she only uses to watch DVD's from the US) is NTSC and has a region free DVD player hooked up to it.

Her family TV has the DVR and DVD burner hooked up to it. She regularly records things onto DVD in PAL on her family recorder and plays them back on her region free player on her NTSC TV...it works fine.

All region free DVD players are programmed to interpret the signal, which is why PAL signals appear a bit more filmlike when played on NTSC TVs via a region free player. PAL is 24 fsp while NTSC is 30 fsp.

My region free player will easily interpret her disks and play back without any issues.

I can't wait to start getting the new episodes! :D

As for CBC, I don't get that on my cable in Memphis, TN. The BBC needs to make a deal (and I'm sure they will eventually) with a US broadcaster for broadcast here in the States.

I am still flabbergasted and stunned that Sci-Fi passed on a deal that would've given them not only the new eps, but the rights to exclusively run the entire Dr. Who series in the US.

Dumb-asses...all of them...for passing on that deal.

Perhaps they consider Dr Who to be "space-based SF", and we all know what they think of that these days.

Yeah even though their three big shows are all "space based." According to what I read, they said it "didn't fit" into their look or feel or some other such bullshit excuse. It most likely had to do with the fact that the FX still aren't SG or BG level and they (even though they had ANDROMEDA and (ICK!) LEXX) didn't feel the look of the show was up to those levels.

Why they couldn't replace their shitty SF original films on Sat. with a night with the Doctor I don't know. At least then the Sat. night line-up would be extremely well written and acted and the FX would be on the same level. :D

Start with a classic episode and then show a new one...do it during the SG and BG runs and play on the SF fever.

Let's just admit it, while they've made some better decisions since NBC bought them, Sci-Fi is still run by morons. Refer to my comment about suits in the B5 thread about trying to understand why TMoS died.

We are assuming that BBC Merchandising Ltd has not delayed selling the new Dr Who until it has some viewing figures it can use to up the price. There is less than 3 weeks to go.

CE, while I would like to have seen SciFi pick up The Doctor as well, I would point out that they did have the rights to the originals at one time. When the SciFi Channel first became available on my cable system, maybe eight years ago, or more, they were running the UK half hour ep versions, in an hour long program, with some other scifi show I have forgotten. I watched a few, before they stopped carrying it. I guess I was spoiled by seeing the US versions that generally ran from one and a half to two and a half hours long, because I didn't have the patience to watch the short versions. If they came back that way today, I would just DVR them, until I had two hours worth, and then watch them.

So, no one knows if Dr. Who will be on BBC America? What is the start date, so I can look for it on CBC?

Well, if no one is going to make it easy for me, I poked around, and answered my own questions, I think. Dr. Who premiers on CBC on Tuesday, April 5th, at 8pm, EST (?), and doesn't seem to be on BBC America yet, but their schedule doesn't go very far ahead. I'd rather get it on BBC America, because that is digital, with digital surround, but CBC Windsor doesn't even have stereo, at least not the last time I checked.

Roll on the British sci-fi revivial!!

Does anyone know what is happening with the planned Blake's 7 revival? Last I heard, they wanted to make a whole new TV series for release in 2005. Haven't heard much recently, though

I'm just an American, but, last I heard was that there was a fallout or something with Paul Darrow (Avon) and the powers that be (The money folks), so what he was trying to get going seems to have stalled permanently.

Downloaded and watched the first ep. I don't want to spoil anything, but I have to say, I hope this is not the overall "feel" and style of the entire 13 eps. If it is, I can understand why Sci-Fi passed.

Let me put it this way...loved the new Doctor, loved Rose. Story was practically non-existant, character development was rushed, continuity was pretty-much ignored (which I thought he was going to be very true to from what he said), threads to making the Doctor feel like a newer version of an old character were passed over (when they should've been taken extreme advantage of), and lastly, and my biggest problem of all really...what's up the the Power Rangers moments?! Silly, childish, horrid sound FX and corny VFX and talking down to the audience (which the Dr. Who never did in the past).

The one thing Dr. Who always had going for it when it had no money for FX was great storytelling, wonderful writing and intriguing and fun characters.

The boyfriend character was stupid, the Nestene was not in line with continuity, but I did like Eccleston and Rose.

I will reserve full judgement until I've seen more eps. But for a premiere I was left badly wanting...and more than a bit concerned.

Saw it last night.

I quite liked it. We were told just enough about the Doctor. Anything else would have confused new viewers. I laughed and cowered in equal measure. It may have been a bit rushed, but this is the first episode. Let's see what the others hold.
